Hi guys, new member here. Looking to hear opinions from current and former owners of VAC preamps. I'm looking very closely at the Signiture SE. Also looking for opinions on the onboard phono.

Sorry if this is a duplicate post. The search engine doesn't like the term VAC very well.

Hi Robd2 - welcome! VAC preamps are outstanding. They provide, body, global richness and a good dose of tube goodness.

Thanks Guys. Yes @mike I agree VACs are great. A big decision of mine is the onboard phono. Thoughts?

It depends whether you are rolling cartridges, have multiple arms, etc. If you've only got one cartridge to worry about, it's a great idea.

Do you know if the newer Sig SEs have the adjustable gain like the newer Renn preamp? The Renn manual says as of (Sept 2017).

Thanks Mike, I'm glad I found you. I bet as your down in Florida also you have great access to
"VAC Central".

One other thing I noticed about the SE. It's very important to seperate the power unit from the tube case. I would never stack them but even having them nearby I was picking up some hum. Any recommendations on minimum distance for the boxes?

Welcome to AS.

Although I cannot comment on the newer VAC pres or Phono, I can tell you that my 25+ y/o CLA1 MKII is still an awesome Preamp that puts life into lesser amps as well as those in it's same league.

My pre also has a 20lb outboard PS which I just place on the floor behind my rack away from the rest of the gear as it has a 3 foot umbilical cord to connect to the Pre.

Going just off of the Pre I have, if I could afford it, I wouldn't hesitate to get more VAC gear. It's also nice when you can call a place and talk to the owner/designer who answers the phone at times. Kevin spent a good half hour talking to me about tubes, rolling, and specific sound I was looking for.

Good luck with your decision!
