Hi,

I have some 3 way transmission line speakers I have custom made. Im using SB acoustics woofer and mid and I need a tweeter to suit. Due to lack of space I need a high power tweeter that will handle 150w rms +, does anyone have any ideas about what I could use? Ive been looking at the Scanspeak D2905/9700 but the face plate is 104mm and I only have 90mm to play with. Im replacing an existing tweeter that was only 20W rms and it couldn't handle the power. Im looking at spending around the $250 AUD mark per tweeter.

I know there are many questions everyone would like to ask but im trying to keep this simple. Just needs to be 4 or 6 ohm, less that 90mm faceplate and handle 150 - 200w RMS.

Cheers
Ben

Hi Ben, welcome to AudioShark! :hey:

Since you've identified specific technical needs, I'd suggest contacting a driver retailer who should be able to give you some choices which would meet your needs. Madisound would be a company I'd suggest, but seeing you're in Australia you might be better served contacting a local supplier. Best of luck with your project!

No tweeter I know of will handle 150 watts rms , maybe you were clipping your amp ? That said , a few of the SB acoustics faceplates are 72 mm . What efficiency are you looking for ? One of them is 4 ohm and 92.5 db and the other is 4 ohm and 94 db . I just replaced the tweeters in my speakers as I needed a touch more "zing" , I replaced the 92.5 db one with the 94 db one . A little bit more detail which is perfect .

the tweeter in the revel salon 1 recently came down in price. I think its $200 ea now. Easy to recognize. Madisound

I’ll second the Madisound recommendation. Send them a copy of your tweeter crossover schematic, turnover frequency, slopes, info on the midrange driver, etc. and they will help you find a tweeter that will work for you.

I know I am hijacking the thread but I have a good tweeter story to tell . Back in the day I had large Advents with the fried egg tweeter and a 200 wpc amp driving them . I wound up burning out one of the tweeters and didnt know a source of the original replacements as Advent had already shut down . A guy at the speaker repair shop recommended a pair of Vifa metal dome tweeters . Popped them in and they sounded ok . My girlfriends son came to stay with us for a few weeks , I made the mistake of letting him play my system while me and the gf were at work . I came home one day and my system sounded like crap . A quick listen revealed the tweeters were not working . I popped the grilles off and both of the metal domes had broken off . He had clipped the amp so hard the domes literally separated . My neighbor said he had never heard my system played so loud …..lol . Replaced them with a a pair of Dyna Audio D28AF'S which were much better , thanks kid !
