Material preferences? Brand suggestions? Hopefully less than $100

My current mat is the factory VPI felt material. What about using no mat on a heavy aluminum platter?

When I had a VPI, I used it without any mats. Certainly removing the felt mat is a good first step.

Depends on the table. I've always found Regas sound best with their stock felt mats. My Michell, OTOH, doesn't use a mat at all.

I use no mat with my VPI. But always use a clamp.

I use a pair of Hudson HiFi acrylic mats on my Technics SL-1700MK2. I had to stack two of them on the platter since my Audio-Technica AT-OC9XSL is so small and my VTA is all the way down to Zero. From what I can hear, there's no ill effects from having two of the mats stacked. And honestly, the two of them stack is just barely taller than the stock Technics rubber mat.
