Trigger Unhappy

My DAC (used as a preamp too) trigger is 5V out and my amp is 12V in. Anybody have experience with this mismatch working?

I am using the "amp in" inputs on an integrated and it keeps timing out and turning off because the pre section is not getting a signal. If I use the "bypass" input I need a trigger cable to make it work.

I need a very long cable so I can't just experiment. Why can't the industry agree on one standard? :reallymad:

You can buy a 5v to 12v 'boost' converter for this. They are fairly inexpensive (less than $20). Google it, and you will find many options.
Not sure what you mean "long cable", but you can buy 3.5mm cables (typically used for triggering applications) fairly cheaply from Monoprice. They come in different lengths (1.5 feet up to 75 feet).

Thanks for the information on the booster. I did not know about those. I suspect I can find one on Amazon. My system could use some more clutter. :notreally::crackedout:

I had already looked at Monoprice for a 25' cable and requested notification when they are back in stock. I don't need one that long but the next smaller size was too short. Monoprice direct with $2.99 shipping is much cheaper than their cost from Amazon.

You may need to build your own connection. One possible configuration could be as follows:

Preamp (5v) -> 3.5mm cable (male both ends) -> 3.5mm female socket adapter -> booster (5v to 12v) -> 3.5mm female socket adapter -> 3.5mm cable (male both ends) -> amplifier

Beware that some of trigger systems require 3.5mm mono fittings as opposed to stereo. You want to make sure that you get the correct connections.

Thanks for the information.

The DAC/pre source with the 5V trigger out from came with a very short stereo trigger cable. I just order mono amplifiers with a 12V input that also said it would respond to 3.3V or higher.

I emailed the manufacturer of the other equipment (McIntosh) I need to control to see if 5V would also work for their "alleged" 12V input requirement.
