I also look at the amount of wear around the center hole as an indicator of how much the person played the record. But the more tools in the toolbox the better, but have only had two instances out of hundreds where someone gave me a hard time about a return.

Given the postage charges when buying O/S Discogs I go Mint or Near mint only.As for wear around the center hole I resonantly picked up some Japanese pressings from the 1970s with the hole slightly too tight!!:yahoo1:

Yep, agree with the tight NOS Jap pressings. They can still be found, a beautiful thing.

It may not be as relevant as it once was but, when I did most of my vinyl hunting, the first thing I would do was flip the cover over and see if there was a Bar Code. I would then pull out the record and check for spindle marks. Early pressings of the stuff I was looking for would not have a Bar Code. Bar Codes came in about the same time as when digital became all the rage. I have a very large vinyl collection and except for the newly released audiophile pressings, there are relatively few Bar Codes in my collection.
