Before I buy a set of Gaia 2s for my new-to-me Magico A3s, I want to be sure that one of the included threads (M6-1.0, M8-1.25 and ¼”-20) will fit. Does anyone know ?

Just read a thread about Magicos and Gaias. Based on that I won't be buying Gaias.

I would hold off on using the Gaia II on the A3’s. When I had the A3’s it was the early days of their release. I optioned for the Gaia II’s due to the price being much less than the Apods. I used them for over a year. I had the opportunity to have a Magico rep ( Peter MacKay ) come to my house and setup the A3’s and on his advice went back to the included spikes of the A3’s. Peter explained than sealed speakers like Magico need to transfer their energy to the floor. Gaia II are designed to couple the speaker to the floor. When we went to the spikes and setup properly the soundstage was much more anchored. I then bought the Magico Apods and they improved things even more. That’s my experience for what it’s worth.

Thanks, Yep, that's pretty much what I read as well. Glad I did a bit of looking around before buying.

My speakers are sitting on tile, ceramic I think. I've ordered a set of sound anchor cone coasters to put under the spikes.

Raised wood floor with carpeting.
Darrel, Thank you for the information.

This is why it is critical for people posting to give the relevant details. I have experience with GAIAs on carpet. The results were not good. I also tried GAIAs with the optional spiked cups. Again, the results were not good. The spikes on the cups did not penetrate the carpet and padding to the concrete below. I ended up using spikes.

Quote from post above: " Peter explained than sealed speakers like Magico need to transfer their energy to the floor. Gaia II are designed to couple the speaker to the floor."

GAIAs on carpet do not couple the speaker to the floor. I have used GAIAs with Magico A3s and A5s on tile over concrete floors. I was so impressed with the A3/GAIA pairing I bought the heavier rated ones when I upgraded to A5s. The combo is still in my HT system and I have no plans to change.

I have no comparison to offer regarding spikes or Mpods vs GAIA. My point here is blanket statements without relevant information are misleading. The performance of isolation devices is totally dependent upon the substrate they are used on.

I just spoke with Peter at Magico. He absolutely does not recommend Gaias with Magico A3. He said the speakers need to be coupled to the floor. For tile or hardwood floors he suggested using the included spikes with Magico floor saver disks or a dime under the spikes.
For me, that is the final word.

I am confused. In a previous post from you, you stated "Peter explained than sealed speakers like Magico need to transfer their energy to the floor. Gaia II are designed to couple the speaker to the floor."

I am not trying to be right here. Just trying to understand. The soft bottoms of GAIAs definitely lock onto a hard surface like a suction cup. But they also have a front-to-back isolation component and should be installed in the correct orientation.

I really don't understand the APod principle at all. "Based on the scientific design principles of Constrained Layer Damping, unwanted mechanical energy is dissipated away from the enclosure." It would seem to me that GAIAs also dissipate energy.

Dizzy I think you are confusing Mintakax with me. Peter was at my house around three years ago. So, selective memory may have played a part in my post. The main point I took away from Peter was how the Magico design and material needs to send energy somewhere. And using spikes or Apods accomplishes that. I think he used a term "smearing effect" when using something like the Gaia.

Darrell,
Thank you for the clarification. "Smearing" I can understand.

Your A3 would be better with Apods, while Gaya works great with speakers like Wilson, it’s far from the best solution with Magico. With Apods your speaker will channel any speaker mechanical moves to heat. That’s because of the two materials it is made.

Regarding what Peter says about sealed speakers….. well, just look at the feet of the new S2, S3, S5….. just saying. ;)

I agree, Apods would be the best solution. I can't really justify the cost right now.
