Understanding how the brain talks to itself

“Much brain activity — much thinking — is not, Tank notes, the result of external stimuli. So, is the brain conversing with — acting upon — itself? This internal conversation is at the core of who — and what — we are.

If we had to think about combing our hair or making toast, we would never get out of the house in the morning. Habits enable us to function because neurons are “conversing” with networks involving thousands of other cells. But ethicists — and courts, and poets — will be warily watching what is learned about the neural basis of choices, habits, love and other important things.

Do we have bodies or are we bodies? What will become of the field of psychology as explorations of brain anatomy advances our understanding of how brain architecture influences, or even determines, behavior? “The devil made me do it” is no longer an exculpation. But what about “My brain circuitry made me do it”?

Someday debates about free will may be resolved by understanding that we are responsible for our actions because we have “ownership” of three especially intricate pounds of matter.”

WIKI

A sequence of events is isochronous if the events occur regularly, or at equal time intervals. Isochronous timing differs from synchronous timing, in that the latter refers to relative timing between two or more sequences of events. The term isochronous is used in different technical contexts, but often refers to the primary subject maintaining a certain interval, despite variations in other measurable factors in the same system.

WIKI

In specific terms of digital logic and physical layer of communication, an asynchronous process does not require a clock signal, in contrast with synchronous and plesiochronous systems.

Asynchronous circuit is a sequential digital logic circuit which is not governed by a clock circuit or global clock signal

Asynchronous system, in contrast, has no global clock: instead, it operates under distributed control, with concurrent hardware components communicating and synchronizing on channels

Asynchronous communication, transmission of data without the use of an external clock signal, where data can be transmitted intermittently rather than in a steady stream

Asynchronous serial communication, describes an asynchronous, serial transmission protocol in which a start signal is sent prior to each byte, character or code word and a stop signal is sent after each code word

CLOCKS, TIMING, SYNCHRONIZATION, PACKETS IN GROUPS OR STREAMS OF INDIVIDUAL SIGNALS REGULARLY DISTRIBUTED, FORM MODERN DIGITAL SYSTEMS’ COMMUNICATION PROTOCOLS.

THEY ARE THE HEART OF OUR DIGITAL MUSIC RECORDING AND PLAYBACK.

A PCM error in timing causes a corresponding error in amplitude, except for DSD. However, just as for DSD, PCM timing can be regulated and corrected. In other words, theoretically not perfect, it can be made perfect in application.

What the first two illustrations show is that it is mechanically possible to divide time equally into discrete numbers or small packets that are regularly and evenly distributed.

The Girard-Perregaux Constant Escapement Watch recently released is the greatest watchmaking invention of the 20th and so far, 21st Centuries, a solution that was sought for 500 years, or for about as long as the firearms manufacturer Beretta had existed.

I would add to these modern developments the outlandishly amazing Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Gyro-Turbillion and Sonnarie.[3][4]

DISCLOSURE: I’ve been wearing a GP watch since 2002.

For good reason.

And a Beretta NANO.

For better reasons.

The MORAL of this story is this: Timing is everything. And what does this theme have to do with music? Everything! In music too, timing is everything.

The same goes for comedy – you either have it or you don’t.

Ask Gordon Rankin and Michael Goodman if there’s a hidden truth lurking in here somewhere.
