We still don't have the amazing things they showed at the 1939 New York World's Fair.
It will be 300 years before this ever gets brought to fruition IF our species survives that long.
Our lousy space program will get a colony on Mars before this happens.

Ok, I freakin need these roadways so I can drive at night again!
More importantly, the tens of thousands of jobs this would create!! These would be long term jobs, not 6 months. You need maintenance crews and everything as well = more jobs. Good paying jobs and then there's the energy savings which would be incredible! Just think of laying these out in the California deserts! How much energy would that create?!
However, this will NEVER happen until the people demand it in overwhelming numbers and strength because the energy companies are against it, Wall street is against it, the government is against it because they want the economy to suffer, it's good for them and bad for everyone else, but it is how they hold power.
This will not happen in my lifetime, unfortunately, not enough people want this or are willing to hit the streets and demand it.

Water levels are rising, temperatures as well. And consequently, volcanoes are on a path with global warming (waiting to erupt and disrupt some more).
New and more efficient (non-polluting) natural resources are the main key to man's survival.
