The importance of proper speaker placement and pairings...

The moral to this story;

Locate a dealer that actually knows something about speaker to electronic pairing and speaker placement,. i.e.. Call Mike

Thanks Chris. There are a lot of good dealers out there, but there are also some bad ones.

As for his speaker placement? So much for WASP....

I would love to know if he dealer truly set it up that way or the guy (or his wife) insisted on them being against the wall.

As for Mc with Wilson? That’s a personal choice is guess.

Reminds me of when I walked in to the monthly audio club meet at a gorgeous ocean condo and saw the like 7'x3' Maggies and huge shrine of bling in this gents maybe 10'x10' "we're putting the stereo in there" room.
"Who recommended this????"
"I gave the dealer a $X budget and said I wanted the best"
"Mkay":rolleyes:

unfortunately this occurs in everything retail, it comes down to the customer is always right adage. And even if the salesperson has noted to the customer, this is better suited for your application, the customer will usually walk out with what they want vs what they need.

Jim's book, Get Better Sound is a very good starting point. While every point will not always apply to every situation, it definitely helps in understanding the thoughts and processes that go into properly setting up your system. A great investment for very few $....

What are some good pairings for speakers and electronics? Some bad pairings?

e.g.
Sonus Faber with XXX
Magico with XXX
Wilson with XXX
etc.

Not only proper speaker placement but also how the sound projects and interacts with surfaces.

My room is treated, but I had a large solid custom built table in front of my listening position, and finally removed it today repurposing it to the living room, where it was designed for - it was so reflective and always a challenge at louder volumes.

My sound has considerably improved!

+1 on Jim's book "Get Better Sound". When I made the step up to really devoting time and money to all of this his book was everything I needed to get started on the right foot. It's helpful on a million levels, and also gives you the tools to think through your system set up on your own. Yes, there are experts who can help you in many areas, but his book gets you to a very confident "starting" point from which you can have your license to learn more.

What an unfortunate situation. Component matching and system setup along with the listening position are key elements for a musical and enjoyable system.

PS - +1 on Jim Smith’s teachings and services.
