The Global Chip Shortage and why it’s difficult to overcome

Foxconn (one of the largest factories in China) has a 200,000 worker shortage if they are to meet the demand for iPhone 13 this fall. It was a perfect storm of lockdowns and demand from people bored to death ordering stuff online like the world was ending. Perhaps it is....

Chips is not the only thing that has a shortage. Foam, automobiles, food products, chlorine, Bicycles our dealers in my area, just can't get them. appliances, building products, furniture , pet food price increases as quantity dwindles. Speaking of prices everything is going up as supplies are going down.

"GM to halt production at nearly all North America assembly plants due to new chip problem

General Motors will idle the plants starting Monday for two weeks due to COVID-19 affecting the production of semiconductor chips

COVID is driving supply constraints in countries that produce semiconductor chips," Flores said. "But I can't say if it's because employees have a high rate of infection or if it's the government putting restrictions on plants due to the pandemic."

I am curious why there is 200,000 worker shortage in China at Foxconn. It's not like they get stimi checks sitting on the couch in that country. Where have the people gone?
