I have tonight, as on many occasions been reminded just how important a full loom is to the improvement of sound on a whole. Tonight I decided to watch the Blu-ray of Joe Bonamassa at the Beacon Theatre. The source was my oPPo 95, the i/c's were Wire World Platinum 7's from the oPPo to the preamp, everywhere else in the loom is all Shunyata Anaconda. Well.....
First off I started to move the Torus generators, then i started to move the Trinity speakers, the voices were recessed, the percussion was out of kilter & the slam just wasn't there .... then I got to thinking why i only bought 2 pairs of Shunyata Anaconda i/c's, so I ditched the WW 7 Plats & took the dac Anaconda out & put them into the oPPo, .... wow. The full loom was like a Cheech & Chong moment, seriously, don't mix your mowee wowee, stay true to the brand :rofl:, p.s. can't wait for the reaction on this one...... :fingers::baby:

nice kev, im not spending shunyata or ww money, but im working on a full loom now of some very nice cables , and with simplifying to an integrated and my phono stage and integrated matching soon, im expecting great synergy from my system. glad its worked out for you!!!

I agree on the full loom theory....to a point. I still wrestle with power cords being part of the full loom for me. I've found that it can often end up being too much of a good thing. But yes, Speaker Cables and IC's...I agree.

P.S. I have tickets to go see Joe B. in December.

I'm in this camp. Agree on synergy to a point. It depends on the complexity of the system & task orientations.

The best of the best belongs on the 2ch analog side particularly every cable that hangs off the amps.

As for HDMI, they should all be the same, shortest length possible.

I strongly believe in shielded power cables especially for complex systems.

Cables need time to settle. I believe that moving or swapping cables requires at least 72 hrs settling time to formulate an opinion. Even then, your audio memory can be a subjective struggle with your inner voice.

Kev,

I'm total agreement with your findings, and the cable loom should in fact carry the same sonic signature throughout ones system, yet as Mike has pointed out - I to have found there are times when a slightly different sounding AC Cord here or there can alter some of the short comings of all but the better sounding/made/costlier cabling looms.

I've that in my case, it always began with the AC Cords - then Isolation Devices/Platforms - Speaker/Amp interfacing LS Cable which maximizes the strengths of both, and finally the IC at the Source, as I feel the IC has an effect that alters the sound enough downstream to either make or break the system, and would much rather chose which IC balances out the sound as heard via the speakers in a matter that best suit my preference in sound, once again, one shoe does not fit all.

But, should add - Steve with the kind of stuff you're looking to own, please don't skimp on the cabling, as the more resolving ones system becomes, it spotlights the emphasis on transparency as well as neutrality, and in not obtaining what the system deserves will only have you constantly looking to change components, as opposed to begin content with what's right in front of you, it's just a matter of having an eye/ear for detail and then give the system a fighting chance to be heard at it's very best, not worse, less it leads to lateral movements as far a components go, which then leads to another search/sound for something else, followed by yet something else, in other words an ongoing mistake after mistake as opposed to voicing through various means to suit your ears/senses, skimp not where it counts.

Logic always should be ones guiding light.

For the money I rated WW Plats as the best cable to my liking. I've owned many full looms & the Platinum from WW just gave me everything in spades that I was looking for. Then I had a system that was very neutral tone wise & the highs were too shrill for me so I changed to the Shunyata Zitron Anacondas. I will not be going back to WW in a hurry & intend to keep Shunyata until I hear something that betters them in my system!

Kev - Kimber Select all copper is quite nice.
Had some Kimber many moons ago, TC, and really liked them until I came across the WW range. You are one lucky guy to be seeing JB live, that whole band is phenomenal talent indeed, as for Tal Bergman, wow just doesn't cut it with this guy,he is dkit!!!
