The 100 Best Albums of the 2010s

not bad, a slightly different take compared to other 2000's best of lists.

I own 32 out of this top 100.

Well, I recognized less than 15 artists.

Same here. Actually many moons ago, I went to a concert where one of the listed artists was the headliner. Went to see the opening act, and when I got there found out the week before he was replaced. The (replacement) opening act was OK. Had to walk out when the headliner came on (made it thru about two and a half songs). It was horrible. The worst concert I ever saw. There have been plenty of articles (and studies) like the below:

Own one, know of 5 that's it and don't care for the music of those 5. I guess at 66 I''m so out of touch. But I still love good old Rock and Roll with some Jazz thrown in.

I own 3, 2 by the same artist. I recognize only a hand full of the artist. Sorry, but who puts together this kind of crappy list.... I could easily name 50-100 albums that would probably be better then most on this list... I mean Justin Bieber, really,,,, :)

I’m not sure I own any. Most I never heard of. Ugh!

How you manage to get Justin Bieber and Kamazi Washington on the same ‘best of’ list, is a mystery to me.

I had heard of 7 of the artists. I only own the Kamasi Washington album. This is just another reminder that popular culture is not trying to cater to my tastes.:)

Not that I'm in this age group but - https://www.latimes.com/business/hollywood/la-fi-ct-grammy-ratings-20190211-story.html but the 2019 Grammy Awards "In a troubling sign, the program did see a 5.6% decline among viewers ages 18 to 49, a new all-time low in the audience category most sought by advertisers." I have not seen stats for the people my age group (I'll be 68 in 3 months) but I can't imagine it going up. I stopped watching music award shows like it probably 15-20 years ago. Most of the new music I get exposed to is on places like this, audio shows and at houses of other audiophiles. I may find something on rare occasion someplace else but the state of the music industry is just different from the way it used to be. I remember there was no rock on FM. This is a blast from the past - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WMMR - "Dave Herman was WMMR's first rock DJ. His show, dubbed The Marconi Experiment, debuted on April 29, 1968.[SUP][6][/SUP] Before Herman's arrival, WMMR ran an "MOR" format featuring programs such as "Sinatra and Company." The Marconi Experiment was very much an experiment for the station, with progressive rock still new to the FM band. The first song played on the show was "Flying" by The Beatles. Over the instrumental song, Herman recited these words: "Arise my heart, and fill your voice with music. For he who shares not dawn with his song, is one of the sons of ever darkness." This was known as "The Incantation" and continued as the regular show opening."

Sadly, I am out of step days closing in on 50 - I don’t recognize any of those artists.

I respect ALL music, but that does not mean I listen to it ALL. Making music that catches people and gives them something is what it is all about.

There is some new music I am forced to hear when my Daughter is in the car, and I do not know how to classify it much like the opening of the article says - but it’s ok for what it is and it’s more enjoyable watching her dance and sing to the music she appreciates.

I have and will stick to what I know with venturing out in my own comfort.

Oh, by the way...

I hear a lot of audiophiles talk about how there is no good new music being made. There is a lot of good music in that list. I'm not in touch with all of it, but recognize almost all of it, have heard much of it, and actively listen to a decent chunk of it. I make new music a priority. I find it to be very entertaining! YMMV

Not missing anything by being unfamiliar with most of this. As far as I can tell, one jazz entry, and I have at least 100 jazz albums from the past decade stored in Tidal I'd rather hear than that one. TWO Lana Del Ray albums? She has an interesting voice, but all her tunes end up sounding the same to me. Bieber? Spare me. Cultural phenomenon, not musical phenomenon. Checked out some of the EDM and other more out-there stuff over the years based on Pitchfork raves and whatnot-- I have scores of ambient albums filed away that are much more listenable and plenty inventive without pushing the limits of one's endurance. But, hey, it's the end of the decade and there will be a hundred of these "best one hundred" lists in the next few weeks. I'm sure I'll be mining for nuggets.

well said. there is so much good music around, one does not have enough time to listen to it all.

I can't wait to pick up the new FKA Twigs album tomorrow - brilliant artist.
