Can't you squeeze into Esoteric for this money?
I hadn't realized until I read a blip in The Absolute Sound that the Technics SE-R1 power amp ($18,000.00) is Class D. It uses a linear power supply rather than a switch mode power supply to produce 100 watts per channel.

It appears to be nothing more than an upgraded version of the amp section from their Panasonic SA-XR receiver series from the mid-2000's. They were also rated at 100wpc and sold for around $500. I have one boxed up in the attic if anyone wants to hear what one sounds like. If pushed hard or used with non 8 ohm speakers they ran hot and fried themselves. In a reasonable sized room with efficient 5.1 monitors set-ups they did sound pretty good.
Kind of like a $300 DJ oriented TT is now worth $4000. It wasn't, contrary to the opinions on another vintage based forum, that great of a TT to start with and even with improvements not worth the money they are asking. In their prime the TT's from Denon, Sony and JVC and Yamaha were better sounding. They are just trying to get their name back out. Denon did the same thing a couple of years ago with their Anniversary offerings.
Nothing wrong with getting your name out, and getting back into the game. However, do it with value for the dollar, not just rebadging something with a bigger price tag.
