anyone have experience, thoughts, opinions, etc on the new technics sl-1200g turntable?

it looks to be extremely well reviewed and offer tremendous value at its $4k msrp price point. the only downside i can see is that one is locked into the integrated tonearm.

also, given the amount of engineering that has gone into modern direct drive turntables, it seems like they might now have the advantage over belt drives?

any cartridge recommendations for the sl-1200g?

Given that I've seen them out the door for $3300-3400 I consider them to be one of the best TT values out there. Listened to one set up with a Hana SL, sounded superb. Yes, we know the tonearm is 'the' point of compromise but again at the price point of this superb analog device one dare not complain (too much)

If my VPI Aries 3(super platter, SDS, Benz Micro Gullwing) disappeared tomorrow I'd replace it in a heartbeat with either a 1200G or a Rega '10' and call it a day …….

I upgraded my tricked out VPI Scout with the 1200G. I have a few cartridges. Replaceable head shells make that easy, an much cheaper than a whole new arm, which the VPI would require.

Solid, no nonsense, table. Much less fiddling around with it. I love it.

Currently I use the Benz Micro Glider SL. Playing around with a Zu Audio modded Denon 103 cart. The Benz is more precise, the Denon is sounds more like music sounded back then, a bit fuller, but less precise.

I have the Technics SL 1210 mkII.
It is beaten by the VPI Classic 3 or the Technics SL-1000R...
No doubt.
