TECHNICS PRESENTS PROTOTYPE OF THE NEW REFERENCE CLASS TURNTABLE SP-10R

PRESS RELEASE AUGUST 30, 2017

Technics presents prototype of the new reference class turntable SP-10R

Exceptional sound quality through innovative direct drive with extra heavy platter

To kick off the IFA 2017 in Berlin Technics are introducing a new benchmark model for turntable with direct drive known. The SP-10R is so far the highest-quality model of high-end audio brand. It is expected to arrive in early summer 2018 to the market.

At the International Consumer Electronics Fair in Berlin Technics unveiled the prototype of the new model, which occupies the top position in terms of signal to noise ratio (S / N) and rotational stability worldwide.

Reflecting the highest standards in the previous Technics Line-up

After the launch of the SL-1200GAE / G both the previous and the SL-1200GR earlier this year took Technics on developing its hitherto most powerful record player. The SP-10R combines the latest digital and analog technologies. This makes the new model obtained in all previous Technics turntables best values in the areas of noise ratio (S / N), speed stability, pitch and flutter.

In the prototype of the SP-10R Technics combines a coreless direct drive motor with a seven-kilogram platter.

Technics SP10

Reference class turntable for unique sound experience

The Technics SP-10R features a newly developed coreless direct drive motor. About the applied already in the SL-1200G twin rotor drive system also integrates these additionally attached on both sides of the rotor stator coils. In this way, the disc player generates an even higher torque for an even more confident driving.

The heavy platter of the SP-10R has a three-layer structure which is composed as well as the SL-1200G of a brass plate, an aluminum die-cast plate and a vibration-damping rubber layer. By optimizing the natural resonant frequency of each layer are even minimal vibrations that may be caused by external influences, eliminated and ensures an exceptionally clear and precise sound.

The SP-10R also has an extremely low-noise switching power supply. Compared to a transformer-based power supply, the power supply of the SP-10R humming noises and vibrations suppressed more efficiently. Since the power supply is disconnected from the turntable, the transfer unwanted noise to the case in favor of a clear and detailed sound is avoided.

Launch

Technics is working intensively on the launch of SP-10R in early summer 2018. The new reference class model will be fully compatible with the systems SP10MK2 from 1975 and SP-10MK3 1981 - the two previous systems that have long belonged to the basic equipment of professional broadcasters and to date are appreciated by audiophiles worldwide and used. In addition Technics plans to introduce a complete turntable system based on the SP-10R including a tone arm and other components.

This is just a platter with a motor - just like the original.

Technics used to sell a special plinth to go with the SP-10. Independent plinth manufacturers will probably join.

Its amazing how close the new one is to the original motor in measurements - looks almost exactly the same. I wonder if it will retrofit into the old SP10k3 SH 10B5 plinth?

You are right. It does read that way.:P

parent company Panasonic is calling the brand’s “most premium analog, direct-drive turntable to date.”

LOL. What else would you expect them to say? I hope they can get a betyer sounding motor than the 1981 sp10 mk3

Well at least the vinyl isn't dead thing is NOT coming true as HI-Rez downloads die a slow death in the wake of streaming. I pretty much welcome all new TT's to the mix, gives the newbies something to bite into to. And Technics getting back into it with a high end TT, pretty cool. Its almost like all the new DACS in all different price ranges. .
