Speaker recommendation for close proximity to wall

I am replacing my current stereo system (circa 1978) and I am starting my investigation with the speakers. Because of space constraints I need speakers that will function well in close placement (< 8cm) from a back wall. Ideally, the speaker would be no bigger than 40x12x16 (HxWxD). They also need to image well when listened to off axis.
Room size: 21' x 13'. Speakers on 21' wall
Music preference: symphonic, jazz, occasional rock and roll
Price point: 5-10K
Once I have sorted the speakers I will move onto the amplifiers, dac, network player, etc.

Well if you don't mind staying in the circa 70's how about a nice reconditioned Allison One.

Otherwise given your requirements you may want to go with an in-wall speaker.

Then there is the Magneplanar MMC-2.

Check out the Von Schweikert VR-22. It uses a variation of the technology Peter Snell used in the landmark Snell Type A's. Like the Type A's which I owned and used for years (Son has them now) they are designed to be used as close as 10" from a wall. They are only $2895 delivered. Greg Weaver raved about them and their bigger brother the VR-33, which he owns. Don't know of anything else that will go any closer.

Some of Audio Note's speakers are designed specifically for near rear-wall or even corner placement. Here are the two models specifically designed for this placement/application:

Zu with Mcintosh is a wonderful combo and can be placed near walls. Both Soul Supreme and Druid V are in your price range.
 
Since they are a transmission line, I wonder how Paul's PMC's he has for sale would work close to the wall? Great price and great speaker and stands, plus fully broken in.
