The Simaudio MOON Neo 260D Transport
arrived today. Thanks to US Customs it took an extra three days to arrive from Canada. The Neo 260D sat in Louisville, Kentucky for four days before the Customs agents managed to bless it for UPS delivery to me. It arrived well packed and supported for its International journey.

I had the rack space ready, so it only took about 10 minutes to get the Neo 260D transport unpacked, installed in the rack and wired up. I am powering it with a Wireworld Silver Eclipse power cable. Its coaxial output is connected to the Schiit Audio Yggdrasil DAC with a Wireworld Silver Starlight coaxial cable. It doesn't get much easier than that.

The MOON Neo 260D is a beauty, solidly built, and the transport operates smooth as silk, silently gliding in and out with precision. I have it set to continuously repeat the disc that is playing, although I will be playing plenty of CD's as the break-in progresses. The owner's manual states: "The performance of your Neo 260D will continue to improve during the first 400 hours of listening. This is the result of a break-in period required for the numerous high quality electronic parts used throughout the transport." That's just over 16 days of continuous 24/7 operation. Since the Yggdrasil DAC is continuously energized for life, it will pick up the additional 400 hours of the Neo 260D break-in along the way.

Once the Simaudio MOON Neo 260D Transport has completed its break-in I will write a review. For now, it is sounding very good, functions like a precise Swiss watch, and I already like it.

Dan the Simaudio Neo 260D looks like a really nice transport.
Should serve you well for many years. Enjoy!

Congratulations, Dan!

Great choice. I have the same transport, and it is incredibly good. Very high resolution, as heard first in an expensive mega system where it also beat a carefully set up server, and then heard in my own system after recent upgrades. Love it.

Ironically, the MIT digital cable that feeds my Yggy through the AES/EBU interface is almost just as expensive (around $ 2K) as the transport and the DAC themselves. That of course is a tribute to the latter two being so cheap, not due to the digital cable being too expensive (it's worth the money, and commensurate to the extraordinary quality of the transport and DAC).

Here is a picture of the inside of the transport:

Al.......Good to read the comments on your MOON Neo 260D transport and Yggdrasil DAC. It pleases me to know I am not the only one who thinks these two audio components make a great pair. I have 18 hours and counting on my Neo 260D now. It is sounding so darn good this morning I can hardly believe it. The MOON Neo 260D and the new Yggdrasil are a home run package. I have absolutely no complaints about the performance as it is, but I am considering purchasing the Wireworld Gold AES/EBU interconnect to replace the Wireworld Silver Starlight coaxial digital cable I am currently using between the 260D and the Yggdrasil.

Dan, from all my reading I think that many still consider the AES connection on the Yggy the best sounding input.

looks a great transport , recently bought a nice acoustic zen mc2 aes and its nicely made and cost very little s/h

Jeff.......You may be correct about that. I am probably going to give the AES/EBU connection a whirl. If there is a performance advantage with an AES/EBU connection versus a coaxial connection, I definitely want to exploit it.

Dan...
Congrats on your new Moon 260D. It looks like a stunning drive.
I use a WW Gold Starlight AES EBU cable between my drive and my dac. It is excellent.

Jerome.......Thank you for that endorsement. I am not unhappy with the Wireworld Silver Starlight coaxial cable but I am curious if there may be a performance boost with the WW Gold AES/EBU cable.

Jerome.......Your nudge was all it took. I just ordered a Wireworld Gold Starlight 7 balanced (AES/EBU) digital cable to install between my Simaudio MOON Neo 260D transport and the Schiit Audio Yggdrasil DAC.

Now you can tell Narcisa that you are costing me money. . :D

I think you’ll like the WW Gold AES. I’ve had mine for a few years now and have compared to the Platinum AES. The Platinum costs more than twice the Gold but gave about only 5-10% more performance in my system. FYI, my WW dealer emailed me today to inform me that WW is releasing its 8 series in Q2 2018. They are not revamping the entire line, but the Platinum AES was specifically mentioned as being improved.

Anthony.......Thanks for the tip on the 8 Series Wireworld cables. I think I will be perfectly happy with the Wireworld Gold Starlight 7 balanced cable. I think it will prove to be the sweet spot.

Dan....
And what Narcisa will tell me when I will inform her that..... I just ordered a Moon Neo 260D ?? ;)
Oh wait ! I do not have to tell her. I am a big boy !
I took the option of the dac and I will compare it to my AMR DP777.
Moreover if I want to sell it one day, a cd player with digital inputs is easier to sell than a single cd transport.

Hi Dan,

Looking forward to hearing your comparison of the Simaudio Moon transport and your music server, which I’m assuming is still the Aurender.

Thanks

Carlos,

Please remind me what music Server(s) you have. SGM/Laufertek MP64, Music Vault, Aurender, etc?
