3 weeks ago we had to put to rest our beautiful Giant Schnauzer Zeus. He lived a long, great life but eventually bone cancer took his life.

We just put down a deposit on a Scottish Deerhound, one of the top 3 tallest dogs in the world. We will get it in June as the pups will be born tomorrow. I was wondering if any one here has any experience with them?

Thanks,

Larry

Congrats and condolences on both dogs. I haven’t had one but am a huge fan of the Irish wolfhound. If the new one has captured your heart I’m certain it will be a winner. Some info from https://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/scottish-deerhound/

There are many things to consider before you bring a Scottish Deerhound into your home. First, the Deerhound is not the dog for everyone. He’s probably not going to bring back that stick you throw, he most likely will not bark and growl when someone approaches your front door, and that nice roast you put on the kitchen counter to defrost is an open invitation for a Deerhound to snack! He’s big, he’s busy as a puppy, and prone to long naps as an adult. If he’s the dog for you, your life will never be the same. You will need to accommodate his size, his need for exercise and quality food and, of course, good health care. In return, you will have a faithful companion who will reward you with love and devotion throughout his life. Are you ready for the delightful experience of living with, as Sir Walter Scott put it, “the most perfect creature of heaven”?
