Sata vs m.2

There are people saying that a sata cable made for audio sounds better then a normal sata. In my intel nuc I could replace my sata cable for an audiophilic. Costs around 1000 dollar. Sounds reasonable…

But wait what is against using a m2 nvme ssd which you plugin directly to the motherboard without using a cable?

I think that you are just trying to justify spending $1k on a computer cable. You are not getting any support from me.
 
SATA can be either SSD or HDD. It is simply the interface. I would doubt that a $1000 cable would make any difference at all in the short run from the back of the drive to the motherboard. Between the two there is no contest, use a SSD.

However for a huge jump go to a M.2 drive which is basically similar to RAM in how it attaches. No wires and they are much faster then conventional SSDs.
 
I ordered an adjusted 20 cm Pachanko serenity sata cable. Normal length is 40 cm, i ordered a shortened version, not only to make it cheaper, but there is simply not much space for 40 cm in a fanless nuc.

It will take some time before it arrives, I will give an update how it sounds.
 
3 years ago I built a custom computer for audio. I use an m.2 1TB drive and I have a 1TB SSD drive with a SATA cable in addition to an 8tb and 4tb HD. At first I used a standard SATA cable which I had lying around after having built several computers. Then I bought a $10 shielded SATA cable and there was more detail but it was too bright sounding. I certainly would not spend $1K on a sata cable though. Try a few different shielded sata cables to see if you can hear a difference.

If I had the option of an M.2 drive or an SSD I would go with the M.2 as the path is shorter.
