I like Roon but sometimes I get too much. Can I show ONLY my library WITHOUT showing Tidal? I don't want to disable Tidal. I just want to browse each separately sometimes. I can't seem to find the answer to that.
Thanks!
Roon can do that for you. Here is how to do this.
1. Select Albums in Roon.
2. Then click of "Focus"
3. Then click on "Format"
4. Select "TIDAL"
5. Exit Focus and go back to the main screen. (You can just double click on the main screen to get out of "Focus").
6. On the top of the screen, you will see a green rectangle that says "+ Tidal". What you see below is your entire list of Tidal Albums in your library. This is the
opposite of what you want.
7. So click on the "+ Tidal" green rectangle to change it (toggle) to a red rectangle that reads
"- Tidal". Now your screen shows the albums that you want: ALL the albums in your library that are NOT TIDAL (the "-" symbols means minus).
Next, create a Bookmark by clicking on the Bookmark icon (top-right of the screen) and create a new Bookmark that you can name, say, "NOT TIDAL". And you are done.
Now, every-time that you want to see your library without TIDAL albums, just select the "NOT TIDAL" Bookmark.
The nice thing about using bookmarks is that if you add more Tidal albums to your library, those Tidal albums are automatically excluded from the bookmarked selection. Likewise, any non-Tidal album added to your library will automatically show up. In other words, your bookmarked selections are always up-to-date.
You can use the "Focus" tools in many ways. Here are some other examples:
- Albums by any performer or group of performers. I like music of John Coltrane, but he performed with different groups throughout his life. If you search "John Coltrane" with Roon using the magnifying glass, Roon will give you options like "John Coltrane Quartet", "John Coltrane Quintet", "John Coltrane Sextet". However many albums where he played (not as a leader) are excluded. If you use "Focus" instead and select music by a Performer (John Coltrane in my example),
ALL albums where JC played will automatically show (that includes albums where he is NOT the main artists). If you create a bookmark of that search, then ALL of the albums where JC played are one click away. And yes, they are updated in real-time.
- Create a bookmark of the music of a particular composer. Same idea.
ETC.
PS. A suggestion on using Focus/Bookmarks vs. Magnifying Glass:
-Use the magnifying glass to find music from outside sources and then add it to your library.
-Use Focus/Bookmarks to get easy and fast access to music already in your library.
