Has anybody matched Raidho X1 with a SET tube amp?
Recently, I purchased Line Magnetic 210IA(300B 8wX2) and Line Magnetic AS-125 (211tube SET 18wX2) to just explore the tube world.
Both amps work well with all my speakers(please see my signature) except Raidho X1.

Duriing playback of high pitch piano/organ and some female voice( at < 90db SPL), some very nasty distortion is easily heared from the X1.

The X1 never had any problem when driven by ML 532H even at higher volume.
Then again, all other 5 pairs of speakers never had any problem with the 2 SET tube amps.

Anybody has the same experience? I always liked X-1 and really wanted it to work with SET amp.:disbelief:

Have you looked at the spec's on the X-1? Not surprised it doesn't work with those two LM amp models.

Yes, I did. Every word of it.:snicker:

Thanks KIWI.
Sonus Faber Guarneri Evo is rated only 86db(85db according to Stereophile test) at 4ohm. Surprisingly, even LM 210IA (300B 8W) can drive it to a satisfing level in my 4mx3m room.

Congrats on the Raidho X1 speakers. Their ability to disappear and fill a room with a big sound is amazing.

While the Raidho X1 is impedance friendly for tubes with impedance of greater than 6 ohm across the frequency range they are quite inefficient in the low 80dB/W/M range.

An 8 Watt or even an 18 Watt tube amplifier is insufficient to drive them. To achieve 90dB SPL at a typical listening position an 8 Watt amp will be driven into clipping. To put it into perspective, the manufacturer recommends greater than 50 Watts (rms) per channel.

The Mark Levinson No.532H power amplifier has no problems but its something like 300 Watts per channel.

OK, if that is the case then I have at least found some closure.
I do find X1 very very insensitive. Your estimation of less then 80db is totally possible.

I suggest Raidho taking out the "Though we have seen excellent results with small tube amplifiers" in the specs description.

Thanks again KIWI, your info is useful and highly appriciated.
