I am sure many of you are faliliar with the unit so must be the right place to ask:
We are talking about the second version, so called commemorative (similar with the original, in that there is the variable input sensitivity with "gain control")....which disapeared with mk V, if i am correct...
The question bears on the unbalanced input sensitivity: on the unit itself it reads 1V and 2.5V... but on the manual it says variable from 1V to 30V..... 30V ?! is it a printing mistake ?

My understanding is that the amp has a fixed gain (caculated at 26dB i think) and so the knobs are just tuning the input sensititvity....if one wants to match it to the component below how can I fine tune it (measure it) provided thare is only two indications 1V and 2.5V....

At what input sensitivity have you put yours ?

A related question is how do you use your preamp (if you can tune your amp) volume control ? are you at your listening level at 12 or do you use it all the way or so ? does good gain struture implies using a lot of the preamp gain so less of the amp (reducing noise...) ?

the idea of having the input sentivity equal or superior to the preceding element' output sensitivity is all fine if you have a fixed output sensitivity component like a DAC or a mixing table.... but for a preamp, the output sensitivity is variable.....
My preamp output sensitivity is 2.4V unbalanced at full volume... which I do not use of course... what is it at 12 o clock ? at 2 o clock ? and as for the MC 275 Without measurements I cannot say precisely where i am inn term of input sentivity...

Great way to get help.

well great way to help !
gain structure is a classical theme in audio...
the Mcintosh 275 is a classic of classic amp !
still no one can answer a single question ?

How can one implement multibox system not knowing about technical stuff ? not doing passive AND active correction for instance ?
Why Toole video didn't led to any reaction ? because of the relativist (and epistemologically limited) assertion that "one cannot mesure everything?"
Nietzsche is not a particulary constructive philosopher and may be you know what his thought led to....

Thanks CPP I will try to call as I have this review in my computer since 2006...
My question is not very important with a preamp (variable output sensitivity) ... but I am plying with mini DSP these days (I was planing to share as it led to great results but i guess not anymore...) and mini DSP has fixed output sensitivity... as I get 3 or 4 ways to tune "volume" or gain I am directly confronted to gain structure issues.... That s how I realised the knob on my 275 were abusively called "unbalanced gain" on the unit...

Hope you get the info from McIntosh
