I have a restored pair of 57's and they are terrific. Has anyone heard the 2905's, which were recently replaced by the 2912's? Ken Kessler, the Quad aficionado, rated them a 20 out of 20, but I guess he may be a bit biased? Opinions? Thanks.

went to a an owners house to collect an amp i had bought . he played me his fabulous system comprising of a whole wall of dartzeel and some high end speakers . second system was 2905 with a sugden integrated and i just loved it . the space and openess was incredible with that little amp . i have also heard with quad monoblock valve amps to very good effect . they are huge though and not exactly wife friendly

In a mad moment some years ago I bought a pair of 2905’s and drove with them with the lovely Luxman 550AII. Simply lovely open sound and surprisingly potent but clear low end. Unfortunately the moment my wife christened them “The Room Dividers” their days were numbered ! If you have the room for them though super speaker.

I like the sound of the 2905's a lot. I have heard from an acquaintance who owns a pair that reliability has been a concern.

Well the WAF will definitely be an issue with the wife. I’ll just have to stick with the 57’s! Thanks for the input.

did i mention i heard some lovely esl57 suspended from a ceiling , beautiful sound . in fact it was incredible , i doubt much could beat it

Having run both 2905's and 2912's IMO tweeks designed into the latter made for a positive evolution upon its Predecessor, On a plus note Quad brought production back from China.

Mike and I heard the 2912s at RMAF a few years back in the MSB room. Front end and amplification was all MSB (of course). Speakers sounded fabulous even though the 2912s were a bit too large for the room.

I have a pair of Wayne Picquet restored 57’s on his metal stands. Astonishing speakers! Also a pair of 2905’s that I bought new which have their own strengths, mainly in power handling and bass extension. I cycle back and forth between them depending on the music content. I’m planning to move, thus both pairs are for sale here in Southeast Florida ...not yet advertised. The 2912’s, I feel, are very marginally improved and not worth the dollar premium over a pair of used 2905’s. As an aside, whichever model you prefer, you owe it to yourself to listen with a Sanders Amplifier. He has a free in home policy, so you can not go wrong.
