Qobuz and Tidal

I just did a year subscription to Qobuz to add to what Tidal offers. Comparing it seems Qobuz sounds more “smooth” than Tidal. Anyone else hear a difference?

Yes. Without any doubts Qobuz sounds better than Tidal.

I like Qobuz a lot, although I don't have any experience with Tidal. Occasionally I can't find something like an original, non-re-mastered version of something but that's a minor quibble.

I have yet to try Qobuz, my friend had them both and it's interesting he said the same thing as you when trying to describe the difference.

Qobuz makes more sense for me as I don't get the full MQA unfold but I listen to some obscure Classic Rock, and Metal, I get the impression the Qobuz library may be lacking in those areas. I wanted to try Qobuz but seem to have issues with the sign up. First it says my date of birth is wrong, so I tried again and the 2nd attempt didn't go through because it detected the first attempt so I just blew it off. I'm not one that likes change anyway, LOL

Heck get them both, its cheaper than a couple tankfuls of gas each month . And which ever one you end up liking in your own system , not others, dump the one you don't like. Simple ! Me Qobuz all the way for quality. The wife likes Tidal.

After login, login to tidal settings —> services
After that go to settings —> audio and select your output (streamer, or dac)
By the way, take care that the dac is on, else you don’t see anything at the audio settings

Then you can search for your track and play

Better to ask these questions in the roon forum, they know all the ins and outs

It can take a bit of powering on and off your devices in sequence to get Roon and Tidal up and running after any changes within your set-up.

A few questions.
Are you hardwired or trying it with wi-fi?
What type of wireless router are you using?
Where are you running Roon?
Are you connected to your DAC via ethernet or USB?

I subbed Tidal for quite a while and could never get to a point I enjoyed using it, and I don't like it's price/value. Based on this thread I'm gonna try our Quboz now!

I also have a Roon lifetime sub but can't entirely figure out how to fit it into my overall use pattern. The Lumin software already seems to do everything I need - local library on the L1 and NAS, check, Tidal/Spotify/Quboz integration, check, Airplay for Amazon HD, check. What would Roon bring to the table? Just not clear to me.

hardwire, ethernet to my MSB dac, roon in my small green computer server, router is netgear I believe(recent super fast)
thanks but I will bail on Tidal trial and go to Qoboz as I heard it plays well with Roon

You should be able to get a rock solid connection with either Qobuz or Tidal. My set-up is similar to yours save for you using MSB and me using dCS. When I auditioned MSB in my set-up I just moved my Ethernet from my up-sampler to the MSB's port. No problems with Roon finding and immediately connecting and locking to Roon and Tidal.

I already like Qobuz more than Tidal. I'll keep Amazon HD for the phone, the car etc., at least for now. It's cheap, easy to use, has most songs I look for and plays on Android Auto (not sure if Qobuz does).

Frankly I came to hate Tidal for a variety of reasons. Mostly the interface just plain sucked, secondly it was much more hit or miss as far as song library, and as others have stated Tidal seemed to be pushing certain types of music very hard... way too hard, and it grew irritating.

Qobuz has a nice interface and great SQ so far; glad I did it.

The main thing might just be getting search results for both your local library and the streaming services at the same time, based on any matching field, whereas with the Lumin app it only searches the source and field of the "tab" you currently have selected.
