My PurePower 2000 AC Regenerator has auxiliary battery backup. This is a super feature when you are listening to music and a utility power outage occurs, or even a momentary power interruption. The music just keeps on playing. Now that my studio system includes the Aurender N10 music server it becomes even more important to have auxiliary backup power to support the hard drives and files from unintended power loss.
Earlier this week during a check of the PurePower 2000 battery reserve power I noticed the display was not showing 100% battery power. Since the batteries in it were the original factory batteries, probably eight years old, it was time for new batteries. I ordered six new HC1221W 12 Volt 21 Watt sealed lead acid rechargeable batteries from BatteryMart, exact replacement batteries. They arrived today (quick shipping) and I installed them in less than a half hour.
The PurePower 2000 has a hinged front cover. Once four recessed screws are removed the cover swings down to reveal three small fans on a bracket and the battery tray. The fan bracket was held by two screws, and two more screws held the battery tray closed. The six 12 volt batteries are wired in series to a quick disconnect plug. Once unplugged the battery tray slides completely out of its recessed cavity. Replacing the batteries was as simple as unplugging the wires and recessed female terminals from each battery, and replacing the wires on the new batteries. Once complete the battery tray is slid back into the recessed cavity in the PurePower 2000, the battery harness plug gets reconnected, and replace the screws that hold the battery tray and the fan bracket in place. I cleaned the fan blades and wire guards before I swung the hinged front cover back in place, and secured the cover with the four recessed screws. Everything looked much better with the dust removed.
I powered up the PurePower 2000, ran the battery self-test to check the battery reserve power. It is back up to 100%. The manual says the batteries should last five to six years, so I think I am good for awhile. I tested the battery voltage of the old and new batteries. There was quite a difference, and the new batteries haven't been fully charged yet. They will float at 13.5 volts. I am happy to have this battery maintenance task completed. Auxiliary battery backup power for the studio system provides me with peace of mind, especially with my new Aurender N10 music server.
BatteryMart.com charged me $22.95 per battery, $137.70 total plus 25.37 shipping from VA. I ordered them Tuesday night and they arrived this afternoon. The grand total was $163.07.
