Hi folks

I am new to the community and have been a silent reader for a couple of months.

I am having a Lumin D1 (music on USB-stick) for a half a year and unfortunately some annonying problems. All started around a month ago and maybe it has something to do with the firmware update (7.02) as I never had problems before. Firstly sometime it skips from to song in the playlist but does not output any sound. I cannot do anything and have to switch it off by the power-off button and turn it on again. This happened around 1-2 times per week.

The second problem which occurs since about two weeks is, that it cannot be seen by the Lumin app on my iPad Air 2, iOS 8. This happens nearly daily and I also have to turn it off and on by the power switch. I tried the following things:

- Reset by pressing the button for 15 secs during start-up
- Uploading rescue firmware as per http://www.audioshark.org/lumin-169/a1-help-8655.html

The upload did not work and it has still 7.02 on it. Attached you can find the message during this process (reset and upload of fw).

Is there anything else you could recommend in order to solve the problems ?

Kind regards

Andrew

Welcome to the forum Andrew. Thank you for joining.

Re: problems with Lumin D1

Have you tried emailing Lumin support?

Re: problems with Lumin D1

Hi. yes I am also in contact with the support and will keep you update. I thought I'll open a new thread as maybe somebody else is having the same problems. The support from Lumin already sent me another firmware to hopefully sort things out, thank you for that :)

Re: problems with Lumin D1

They're very efficient!

Re: problems with Lumin D1

I just uploaded the new firmware and hope things were sorted out. I will keep an eye on the behavior and keep you on track.

Re: problems with Lumin D1

Wookie...I have a D1 and L1 that just started acting up about two weeks ago also. The issue I'm having sounds a bit different though. It all started recently after adding new albums to the L1. When I hooked the L1 back up to my router the D1 wouldn't load my whole library.

Also, I usually manually turn the L1 off at the unit when done listening so the hard drive doesn't run constantly however, when I first put the L1 back in my system it wouldn't stop running even after powering it down. I was forced to unplug it which solved that issue but the problem concerning incomplete loading of my library persists.

I have not been able to trouble shoot it yet so, I'll report back this weekend after monkeying with it.

Re: problems with Lumin D1

This procedure tells the L1 to recreate its database from existing music in its HDD. Although this is not a format procedure and is not expected to cause data loss, having backup of your music is preferred.

1. Make sure USB is disconnected, and standby the L1
2. Unplug the power from L1
3. Press and hold the L1 power button
4. While still holding the L1 power button, plug in the power cord
5. Keep holding the L1 power button for about 30-40 seconds - during which observe the various LEDs blink. Keeping holding it until L1 finally stops blinking, or goes into Standby mode with red LED on.
6. If the red LED is on, press the L1 power button once to bring it online
7. Lumin app -> Settings -> Options under L1 -> Reload Music Library (If you have previously renamed the L1, the name is now reset to default)

Note: In case this still does not solve your problem, please backup your recently added album(s) and delete them from the L1 using a computer, then repeat from step 1.

Re: problems with Lumin D1

Hi. I just wanted to update you. The lumin support (especially wklie) tried to help me with modified firmware-upgrades and other useful tips. Finally I am using now Minimserver and everything works fine :congrats:I couldnt solve the problem with the USB-playback but I don't care about it anymore. Merry christmas and a happy new year to all of you :yahoo1:

Re: problems with Lumin D1

So happy to see that minimserver is working for you. I have the D1 too and it's a wonderful piece.

Re: problems with Lumin D1

I've been monitoring this thread since Andrew posted it. I run my D1 to a NAS and use Minimserver for my music, but all the wife's music is residing on USB ScanDisk Cruzer 64gb drives and their loaded. To this day which has been since I got the D1 from Mike, we or should I say she has not had anything "weird" occur while playing music from these USB drives. Of course her listening to music is basic, plays a album in its entirety and then moves on to the next. She doesn't attempt to get the Lumin to change playlist sequences, a force skip to the next track or delete songs out, it's just push play and forget it.

Re: problems with Lumin D1

Yes Chris, it's amazing what happens when people follow the instructions and use the Lumin how it's intended.

I still maintain the simplest and best sounding solution is to add a Lumin L1 (or two). No fussing and mussing with MiniMServer. Best sonics. Plug & Play.

Just wanted to report back on the issue I was having and to thank wklie for the help. The problem I had was the L1/D1 would not load my library after deleting and adding new music. I followed the instructions provided by wklie (above) and the new music library loaded correctly. I did however, have to redo my playlists. I think it probably had to do with all the music I deleted. Everything has been working great ever since.

Also, I'm not sure if anyone has had this issue but the D1 couldn't see the artist or album name for music files I saved as AIFF/WAV. Those files ended up in a folder titled unknown artist/unknown album. This might have been due to the way Apple iTunes saved the music but I'm not sure. When I pulled up my music files on my computer in widows the files saved as WAV displayed different than files saved as Apple lossless. So, I converted those WAV files to Apple lossless, now the D1 can recognize all the artists and albums without issue.

Just wanted to post this incase someone had a similar issue.
