Is there a music server/CD Player which can PLAY a CD and in the same time Rip it on it's HD ? This will be a great time saving : everytime I play a CD, it is also saved as a HighRes music file ! !

It may be tricky, but.... may be a Music server with a built-in CD-Player that read ahead of playing like the PS-AUDIO PerfectWave Memory Player or the The Memory player can do this ?

thanks

NO PS Audio doesn't do the rip. As moment all I can think is Olive brand.

I think there are stand alone items that do that. I recall that what was it...Kaleidoscape players do that or used to, they may not make the CD players anymore.

Most of the units I have had will allow you to rip a CD while playing something you already have saved to disc. I do that all the time with my MC200.

I think having a cd drive operating may have a negative impact on QS a bit due to micro vibrations. That's why people use a SSD in their servers instead of a hard drive.

I wonder if there are products who does.
Playback and ripping are very different.
Playback is maintaining a steady stream of data to a DAC and the timing of this stream must be of a high precision otherwise you have tons of input jitter at the DAC.
As audio CDs are not bit perfect by design, anytime good ripping software detects a read error, it will re-read the sector. Dedicated ripping software like dBpoweramp will do so up to 80 times.
Rereading a sector and maintaining a real time steady stream to a DAC won’t go together well.

Your best bet imho is dedicated ripping software with a secure ripping mode and preferably support for AccurateRip.

I agree. The two processes are very different. Each is designed to optimize a single task. Think about it another way. How long does it take to rip a CD? How long does it take to play back that same CD?

Yes the process are different, but...I need to find a way to be as efficient as possible because I just acquired a complete collection of 1500 CDs of Classical music, with some very rare or old recording like this Wagner recorded in 1926 ! So, since I will have to listen, select and rip the best.... it will take time...
