Pass INT30a

I demo'ed the INT-30A and the INT-150 about 2 1/2 yrs ago with VMPS RM-40. I felt the 150 had overall a better presentation, definitely better bass and a more defined image. The 30A had a warmer, more "mellow"(?) midrange. Both my current speakers and the VMPS are about 90 dB efficient, so the 30A has enough power, but for me the slighlty more euphonic midrange wasn't enough to prefer it to the 150 which did everything else better. I have heard that the 60A and 100A (not integrateds, unfortunately) keep the 30A's midrange tonality but add the 150's strong points to that.

I'm a big fan of integrated amps, it would take a lot for me to go back to separates. The Boulder 865 is currently looming large on my upgrade radar, but I haven't yet heard it.

I'm demoing one right now from Reno Hi Fi.
Not quite broken in yet, but compared to the x1/xa30.5 combo, the bass is less full, but punchy, convincing, and room-filling in my medium sized room. The bass has improved significantly since I received it cold on Friday. Soundstage has also opened up significantly, very holographic with the DeVore Nines.
Wouldn't say that it has an overly warm presentation, it's actually very detailed, layered, and coherent. The x1 is definitely warmer in comparison.
I'm pretty impressed with this unit. It sits right in between the x1 and XP-10 in resolution and warmth. I found the XP-10 on the cool, lean side, and didn't prefer it to the x1, although it had its strengths.
The INT has plenty of drive with my sources, even at low volumes, at moderate to high volumes it continues to impress, and doesn't break up even close to unity, when my ears have given up.
I'd suggest trying one out if you have >90 dB speakers.

Excellent feedback. Thank you.

Mike: Are you thinking of trying one out, or just curious?

I'm trying one out to see if I can consolidate in case I will be moving soon. So far, the bass control is the biggest difference, but not even close to being a deal killer. In fact, I am leaning towards the INT right now - I don't feel like I'm losing that much in bass. Textures, tone, musicality, dynamics, it's all good so far, and like I said, low volume performance is very good. We'll see if bass changes any more in the next couple of days.

Paul: Hello!

Paul: Hello!

I'm really just curious. I would love a nice integrated. The Allnic 2000 is very high on my list, as is the Unison research S6.

Allnic makes some nice looking gear! Haven't heard them though.

Had the X150.5, and you do trade better bass control and macrodynamics, slightly greater treble extension for more textured and organic sound from the XA30.5. The X.5 series is very nice!

That's a great looking amp. You should ask if it can use 6550's in it. Maybe a little less power but those you have from Nikolay might sound very nice in there (as long as they can be used of course).

Pass is planning to release INT-30.8 and INT-150.8 sometime early next year. Can't wait to hear them!

Mike: did you get a chance to listen to the INT-30A?

After more break-in, the bass opened up, which was my only concern with it. Still not as voluminous as the X1, but on par with the XP-10.

I'm afraid I didn't. I went with the Line Magnetic 219ia instead.

Something about the 60 is hard to figure; it's too small and inexpensive to be a 60.8A series amp, but it's significantly more expensive than the current INT-150. Maybe it's the integrated equivalent of the 30.8A?

I'm guessing 60 watt class AB?
