OPPO Wireless Issues / Questions

Just wondering if anyone else has connectivity issues with the OPPO provided Wireless USB adapter and dongle.

I have two 93s in two downstairs setups. I just got my internet upgraded to FIOS last Friday.

My Laptop gets full connectivity and no buffering issues with YouTube, but both OPPO players only get 40% or lesser signal when setting up security and connection and need to buffer when streaming HD YouTube videos.

Questions-

Do any of you use the Wireless USB Adapter?
Do you have connectivity issues when player is at opposite end of house than router?
Does OPPO have a newer stronger adapter?

Can you use ANY USB Wireless Adapter or do you have to use the OPPO supplied unit since it is propitiatory?

Thanks for any feedback!

Looks like I am out of luck.

The reply from OPPO said you have to use their proprietary (reads 'inferior') USB adapter.

I guess I am going to need a wireless extender for the downstairs network.

Hi Brian. Just saw your post. I had to go to a wireless extender a Netgear 2500RP no issues in a few years and I've got two OPPO's. .

Thanks Chris,

I guess I am headed that direction if I cannot get Verizon to give me the better router (even if that worked better)

Looks like besides slowness of operation, I finally found something wrong with my OPPO players. They should have designed it to use any 3rd party adapter and not pidgeon hole you into using theirs, which kinda sucks if I am only getting 40% signal sitting right next to a wireless laptop getting 100% signal.

Samsung did the same thing with their tv's for a while. Wasn't long until someone found out what chipset their USB adaptor was using and found an aftermarket one that would work from Newegg for a quarter of the price. Oppo is certainly not making them, probably buying from a cheap source like Rosewell or Trend Net.

Sony also did it for a while, and did not even include it with the player and charged you another $90 to buy it after advertising wireless players and misleading the consumer.

OPPO really did a dis-service here with this one and there is really no reason I should not get the same signal strength as I do with my laptop sitting in exact same location.

Could it be the Youtube App itself?

May not be a fully current N adaptor. Could still have been G technology in use or one of the transition steps.

The OPPO site does say it is N, but who really knows. I got another suggestion to go into the Router and set N exclusively. Will try that as well as a reverse polarity adapter, which I may have an old one. If all fails, I will see if I can get Verizon to swap me the better router, or I will get an extender of some type.

Wireless & Ethernet – Using the included wireless-N adapter or the built-in RJ45 Ethernet port, users will be able to interact with BD-Live content, watch instant streaming programs from providers such as Netflix or VUDU, playback contents stored on their home network, and keep the BDP-103 up-to-date with firmware releases to ensure maximum Blu-ray compatibility.

After much testing and several emails back and forth with OPPO service, they just offered to send me another wireless adapter.

Last night I tried every position possible and still could get no better than 40% but I did at times get a neighbors signal at 100% and my own at 23%. Also, I could leave the adapter in a single place and keep rescanning and never get the same signal twice.

Maybe a new adapter will help. Either way, this is 1 more plus for the already great OPPO Customer Service.

Brian maybe the new adapter will take care of your problems.
