Old vs New comparison any guesss?

It looks like there is a good chance that the version Music Direct is selling was sourced from a digital file and not from the original master tapes. And I say that because normally audiophile LP reissues make a big deal about having the original master tapes as the source for the LP (and they should crow about that) and no mention is being made about the provenance of the source for the LP . It's quite possible that the original LP that you purchased from Ebay will sound better than the reissue (assuming the LP is in good shape). It will have been made from the original master tapes while the tapes were still fresh.

That was insightful of you to notice that there was no crowing about the MD version. The reason I started the other thread was because I often find it difficult to understand the "process". I think your "no crow" philosphy is probably correct.

Does anyone know if the Eagles Box Set from last year was taken from digital files and the Hotel California reissue from a few years ago taken from the master tapes? Sure sounds like it to me.

Any guesses what I will discover
i have several albums on 180g remastered and originals, and although the 180g do sound somewhat cleaner not all of them sound better.
id say about 15-20 180g records i have never get played above their original counterpart.
i dont know if all of them are from digitals or master tapes, but i do know a few are from masters. some of the originals are just better no matter how they were remastered, and that goes both ways too of course.
one that come to mind immediately is zz top deguello. the 180g is awful, clean and very accurate with the vocals coming to life more but it lost all that room filling sound and pounding bass the original has. just not anywhere near as dynamic and fun to listen to.
just my opinion and ive said several times on this forum the original fleetwood mac warner bros label sound better than any of the many remasters i have or heard. and i think i have most or all of them.

What about new vs old Neil Young?

Well, Neil Young did look younger when he was young. :P Again, you would have to look at each reissue to determine if the source for the LP was the actual master tapes or a digital file. Neal has his own digital company now with My Little Pono. I think the day is quickly approaching that record companies will not want the master tapes to leave their vaults for making reissues and will only want to let people use the digital files. You can rest assured that anyone who goes through the trouble and expense of sourcing the original master tapes in order to bring their reissue LP to market is going to make a big deal out of it in their marketing.

What about new vs old Neil Young?

It's the same with the old versus the new you (all of us). When I was young I was fully energetic and vibrant and flamboyant,
now that I'm older I am vibrating even more to other younger's vibrancy (girls and all). :)

The pulse of our heartbeat and blood pumping from it and streaming into our veins; it all beats and pulses and streams with the times we live on now.
- Yesterday Kurt Cobain was, today he is even more present. In death we can shine even more than in life.

Best off topic response ever. Hope to meet you some day.

We don't live that far apart at all; on the same continent, America.

I would love to be @ a music party where all the Shark members would be present. ...That would be real cool. And it would most likely strengthen, solidify even more our communication/comprehension skills and presence @ the Shark forums, and also @ other audio forums.

Thx Bill, glad that you liked my reply.

Received the 1975 epic blow by blow and compared it to to the 180g. Honestly cannot tell the difference.
