NPR - 25 best albums of 2019 ...

Heard of a couple, listened to a couple, don’t own any.

So who are they polling to make these lists? Nobody here has even heard of most artists or albums on the list.

Do you really believe that the music most “audiophiles” listen to is relevant to the consumers of music? I only have listened to one album on the list

I had heard of Tanya Tucker and Raphael Siddiq (formerly of Tony, Toni, Tone!).

I bought about 300 or so albums this year, and have no interest in owning any of these 25. I've heard 6 or 7, and have declined to listen to 3 more because I know I don't like the artist. Who makes these lists?

Depending on your tastes you could find this to be a much better list, I did.

I have (or had) the top 5 from this list but none of the others LOL. Those 5 are only OK for me, none are albums I would recommend.

obviously from the amount of music I have acquired in the past year I think there is a lot of very enjoyable new music being released, but my tastes apparently are very separate from the critics (although Downbeat’s and Presto Classical’s lists were fairly good)

OK Boomers . . .

I believe that NPR does it by polling their staff. I wager their staff averages 30+ years younger than the average age of Audio Shark participants. Me included.

Personally, I use these lists to expose myself to new music. Whether I like it or not, buy it, etc., is step 2. But I do appreciate step 1.

this is a pretty broad list, from indie to classical to country. i've heard at least half of them.

coolio.

Why should anyone take the NPR seriously on anything?

I find NPR’s bumper music to be excellent typically.

From NPRs website on how they compiled the list:

“Thousands of votes poured in from our listeners in our annual year-end poll to find the year's 20 most-loved albums.”

I recognize quite a few of the artists but have not heard most of the albums/tracks chosen. As someone posted earlier, this is a good way to keep up with new music.
