....but my new toy. Didn't realize my old Cable Cooker was closing in on eight years. Enter the new audiodharma Hi Power 3.5 that gets the job done 25-50% more quickly than the old model, works better on heavy gauge and multi-layer designs and uses an extended FS circuit to break in cables. The new version also comes with Cardas binding posts that makes connecting stiff and heavy speaker cables oh-so-much easier.

Joe, I think it's time you upgrade to one of these. I'd like to borrow the best.

Does it cost as much audiophile cables?

Depends on the cable! :) Are we talking anti-cables or

There are three versions of the CC ranging in price from $999 to $1699. Think of it this way. The CC allows you to fully realize the potential of your existing cable, maybe making that next upgrade unnecessary. As I said in my earlier review, this is something a group of audiophiles, a club or even a store could invest in for their customers. And more and more cable companies are cooking their cables with this unit, the Nordost Vidar, etc.

So it's not just to break-in cables but to improve them? I guess I should follow the link....

Yes in the sense the "treated" cable actually sounds better than one that is just used for some time. Did the experiment as I wrote in my PFO review some time back with two lengths of Kubala-Sosna PCs; both had been used for at least a year and just treated one piece with the CC. The differences between the treated and simply used PCs were not subtle.

I worked with Alan Kafton on the testing of the new High Power Version. They are excellent units that perform a very effective conditioning of cables in a relatively short period of time. They are also very durable units. My older version (Anniversary Edition 3.5 with the Cardas binding posts) as well as my new High Power Version have been "on" 24/7 for at least the last 3 years without issues.

Highly recommended.

My $0.02,
Pete
