New Schiit URD CD Transport

The only issue I have with Schiit's latest offerings is they are using USB-C inputs, and almost all aftermarket audiophile-grade USB cables are USB-A to USB-B connections.

Yeah - that makes no sense. It's like they got so focused on USB-C being "better" than the others they forgot the realities that in HiFi Audio the high end cables are as you described.

Honestly, Michael, I don't think they care. I say that not to imply that Schiit is being "dismissive", rather that Schiit knows the the "market segment" of their installed-base of customers really well, and that installed base isn't likely to be spending more on a USB cable than on the product itself.

Still, Schiit makes products that are excellent value propositions by providing functionaity and features that exceed their price points and it'd be nice if folks could obtain maximal performance by being able to aftermarket USB cables, almost all of which confirm to the classic USB-A/B standard.

Yes and they have designed it with USB 'C' inputs that can be fed from a streamer.
More limited cable choices, but they do exist.

Yep. IIRC, Wireworld makes a similar specification cable. If my hypothesis is correct, the reason many "high-end" cable companies do not offer digital cables with "USB 3.0 C" or "USB 3.0 Mini-B terminations" is that is the "pinout", i.e,, the wiring in USB 3.0 has more internal conductors (between 6 and 9) than the classic USB 2.0 specification, which only has four internal conductors.

Wireworld has C to A, or C to mirco B

But your right, there is not many out there.

Yep, I am familiar with those as I've been researching an audio-grade USB cable to connect my external music file drive to my Akasa NUC.

Pete at Triode Wire Labs does work with customers on various custom cables. It may be worthwhile to inquire with him. Very recently he has re-added his "Passion" USB back into ordering availability; it had previously been removed due to parts supply chain issue. I have found Pete to be a pleasure to work with, and his cabling prices "reasonable".

Cool, thanks, I will reach out to Pete. I need a custom USB cable that is USB 3.0 USB-A at the server end, and micro-B at the hard drive end to connect my external music HD to Alita, Battle Angel. I'd prefer to able to buy a good one that's only a foot long rather than 1M long, as well.
