I had been using basic Cambridge cd/dvd player.... a little bit ago I got a Yamaha CD-S677. It is an audio/video player. It is very inexpensive and does support SA-CD. I have been buying quite a few SA-CDs because I love DSD and there is so much that is in SA-CD but not released for download. The unit sounds surprisingly good so I said, what the heck, lets see how good their designed for music only player is 
....
The CD-S677 will get moved to the TV room and take over Blu-Ray duties playing through a Yamaha surround sound receiver.

The Yamaha is in the house. I have not had a chance to really sit down and listen to it yet, but a quick run through I can say the machine is built. Very solid build and quite as a mouse. The remote feels very nice also. Very very heavy. I have never felt a disk player that was this heavy and BIG.... Looks gorgeous with the wood panels on the side and the simplistic design. Did I say solid build and really smooth feel.
The unit is very big, again bigger than any disk player I have ever seen. When I get a chance to really listen to it we will see if sound quality is where I am hoping for it to be.

Hey Paul, Not a break in.... randomly the music cuts out for a few seconds and then a small electrical pop and comes back on. I tried 4-5 different disks and never made it through a full song...
What ? You not going to give them a chance to break in ??

No worry. This sucker was packed too, double boxed, straps, etc. the little plays great so... well disappointing but no worries...

Well I just ordered the Marantz SA8005. It seems to get universal praise and ratings as an excellent SA-CD player!

I have a the same player in silver.
I would suggest that you get a CDS2000 replacement before you make the call to look at an alternative brand. I suspect it represents the best CD Burr Brown implementation Yamaha has done. On 16 bit cds I rate the machine as average sounding but it real power lies in the SACD section. Extremely natural sounding to my ears on big systems.
You can soup it up by putting it on rollerblocks and in front of a good valve pre.

The Yamaha has become the CD-S2100 and it is virtually three times the price of the Marantz. Honestly, I cannot afford $3k on a disk spinner for listening to an occasional SA-CD. My main source will continue to be the digital music server. The Marantz receives top ratings in ever single rating and review out there including number one in TAS $1k - $4k list....
I really like Yamaha equipment and the CD-S1000 was a tank. It was a massive machine (maybe even too big), but it was also defective straight from the factory. I think the Marantz should be a great player and in this range it appears to me that Yamaha and Marantz are two of the only companies making music only players. I am not interested in paying extra for all of the video functions that I will not be using....

The CDS2000 is Burr Brown and the new CDS2100 is Sabre based.
I need to qualify my previous post- the CDS 2000 is less forgiving with older 16 bit recordings which can sometimes be a bit sharp but give it a good 16 bit or SACD disk and it can shine.
I agree with your conclusion, I still need to upgrade to a digital music server

The Marantz SA8005 is in the house .... I assume there is a break in period like other components (DAC and all)....
So far so good! Played like two disks so far... sounds very nice. The player seems very very solid and has all the features I could possibly want (and then some)... and it even plays.... unlike my last attempt
...
I am just figuring out all the controls, sitting back and listening a little.
So far I can definitely say very nice separation and very smooth. Figure got to give it at least 100 disks before truly doing any judgement.
One thing I have noticed is that the Marantz definitely plays Redbooks back better than any disk player I have had in the system. Very nice, not quite the dynamics of a good SA-CD, but much closer than on any of the other players I have tried.
