...My router took a dump last weekend and I had to buy a new one. My last router was a Netgear wireless as is my new one. Installing a new router is usually a quick 5 minute exercise in unplugging and plugging in cables and following a few easy prompts.

Not this time. The new router absolutely refuses to recognize 2 of my 3 computers. The computers are all relatively new Windows 10 HP PCs. The one that works with the new router is one of the HP lap tops. The new router simply will not accept one of the HP lap tops and my only desk top (also an HP), which is a dedicated recording computer. It says the new router is connected but I can't get it to connect to the internet. Very strange.

Anyone here had any difficulty getting a new Netgear router to recognize computers on the network? Any suggestions? I'm about ready to return the Netgear router for a different brand.

On both of the 2 trouble ones, do a Start>Run>CMD>then type IPConfig /flushdns
Then at same cmd prompt, type IPConfig /registerdns
Try to add the 2 PCs by IP or MAC manually
Check Firewall

Have you called your internet provider and told them you have added a new router/modem?

They’ll update it on their end has been my experience

That's usually if you replace the cable modem with one that is not theirs. Now a router modem combo, you are correct. They need to know. . I've changed my routers a lot and never had an issue with "Spectrum", but when I added a new Spectrum approved modem, yep had to call to let them know my MAC address to activate your the Internet connection

I did the next best thing to fixing it myself...a buddy fixed it and we have everything on the home net again. Thank you for your helpful suggestions!
