Featuring a cool, 1960s retro design, the C22 has been updated to modern standards to deliver a performance on par with any other McIntosh preamp. Electromagnetic input switching provides reliable, noiseless and distortion free operation. Low distortion levels of all types are less than 0.08%, allowing music to be presented with total transparency and accuracy.

A total of 10 inputs include 2 balanced and 6 unbalanced along with Moving Coil and Moving Magnet phono input sections with selectable resistance and capacitive loading so every phono cartridge and turntable can be perfectly matched to produce the best sound. Outputs are comprised of 1 set of balanced and 3 sets of unbalanced connections. Bass and Treble tone controls with bypass feature allow you to listen to your favorite songs at your preferred tonal balance. Power control outputs will turn a complete McIntosh system on or off using the front panel or remote control.

While featuring a retro look, timeless McIntosh design cues such as a partial black glass front panel, knobs and brushed aluminum end caps allows the C22 to seamlessly blend in with other McIntosh components to create one cohesive system.

That's a big win for the nostalgia marketing. It will be fun to watch the reviews and see where the collective places this product, in terms of sonic value, in the preamp line up.

It's just wrong. I have no use for it, but I want it bad! Sigh...greed is an evil thing. I want I want I want!

There is a lot of features on there for the true music listener. (Record,Tone, Loudness, Cartridge Loading, etc)

What I do not see is remote trigger/HT Pass thru. Looks this falls at or below the C220 in specs and features. The price is the biggest indicator.

I've been thinking about the perfect speaker for mc75 mk2/c22 mk2 combo. Hmmm....

I like that that unit is minimalist. Tone control a +. If you want to DAC it, add any of the MCDs or D1xx line and Boom! Only issue, is that there is not a nice visually branded MCD/D1X facade that compliments the C22.

Even so, I may just buy it because, well. I want it. Great McIntosh marketing on this one. Retro is in!

Not splitting hairs Mike, but this latest version should be MKIV. The first C22, we all know started it all. Then came the C22 Commemorative Gordon Gow version, then the C22 60th Anniversary (with the matching MC75 released some 5 to 6 years back, and I must say I am lucky to have this combo, more so at S/N #1).

As for matching speakers, I have found the one that is a perfect fit, the JBL's, and mine is the L300 Summit. Whether its the monitor/domestic or the latest models, perfect match. If you are looking for retro but brought up to the latest and greatest, Kenrick Japan will be the nicest shopping place. I did thought about the Klipschorn 60th Anniversary but they are out of production. If not, the words 60th Anniversary matches to the hilt.

Jerry.......I did not realize your 60th Anniversary C22 and MC75's were serial #1. WOW!

Yup. Actually, McIntosh made 3 sets of #1's. One for the US market, One for the Canada market and One for Asia. All in all, should be 60 sets x 3. I managed to grab one of the 3 (not the US for sure).

I have now collected a MCD1100 and a MT5 TT. Just to complete a full Mc outlook (like your's), I am going for the MR87 (MR88 won't work here), a MVP891 and that should work. All these will be in my new home sometime mid June/early July.

Thats when I will have the L300 banded together. Pictures will follow. And Merry Xmas to you Dan! (and all in this forum).

Cheers

Hey, does anyone have this McIntosh C22 II reissue preamp? Any thoughts on how it compares sound-wise to the C2300? I'd like to think C2500 without dac? Thoughts?

Joe - can you imagine the C22 with the Mc 75 amps and your JBL's? oooooh man!

I like that McIntosh reintroduced the Loudness Compensation on the C22 Mk2 preamplifier. It is a retro feature that I always enjoyed for low level listening with previous McIntosh gear I have owned. My refurbished McIntosh MA230 integrated amp has Loudness Compensation, and so does my McIntosh 4300V receiver. I wish my C2300 had the feature.
