New Boeing Jet goes "almost" vertical

Man, I saw that yesterday and all I could think was that I was glad I wasn't on that plane when they pulled that stunt. It's not a fighter aircraft.

We discussed that video yesterday and it's a stunt that can only be done with an unloaded plane.

Right you are Miles.....if I keep the nose down to build up speed, I can do that in my Cessna. I remember coming off an unpaved runway with a small shack unbelievably placed not 20 yards from the end of the active, and did that very kool maneuver.

I have a customer who's a test pilot for Southwest. The things he tells me they do to shake a plane down when it's new or back from repair is pretty impressive. I forget exactly the number, but he says banking in the 4-5g range is typical.

Conducting that C-130 demo over a heavily populated area seems like a very bad idea!

I saw an FAA video (a few years ago) that showed a Boeing 727 being jacked so that the tips of the wings touched. (This was years ago when I was training for my pilots liscense) Of coarse, no damage to the plane.

I am still not comfortable with fly by wire and heavily computerized flight controls, although I understand that a modern jet at altitude has need of keeping a tight envelope as far as speed and attitude, etc.

I try not to think of it when flying :sigh:

I wonder if the camera angle created a bit of an illusion in regard to the takeoff. The rest of the flight seemed tame. Flying upside down and doing a loop or role would be much more impressive.

At the end of the day do we not already have enough ways to end up dead why add more.
