:hi:Guys
I just ordered a new Mcintosh mc275 mk6 from my dealer. Sadly, I'll be saying goodbye to my ARC VT100 after 15 years of enjoyment. I'll still have the tube sound, but not the prohibitive cost when it comes time to re-tube.

It's gonna take some time because my dealer had none in stock and Mcintosh has none in their inventory. I'm looking at the second week in October(hopefully sooner)for delivery.

I'll start a thread in the Mcintosh forum when it arrives.

You're not the only person getting new gear:sneaky::sneaky::sneaky::sneaky:

Congratulations big time Bob! I am sooooooo happy for you. The MC275VI is a superb amp and one that I still lust after. It's a beautiful piece and Class A rated. You will love it. Hopefully it will be here sooner than later. Good luck!

Awesome !!!!!! I've always been told that if your going to get a Mac make sure it's a 275!!!
Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!

Bob,

This will give you time to get those Gold Lions ordered. :)

Joe
Gold lions for the input/driver tubes and maybe Shuguang black treasure kt88's for the output or GL kt88's or maybe both & swap back and forth.

Tube rolling is fun.

Bob !!!!!!! :woot::woot:

A huge congrats on a world class amp !! I can't wait for you to give us a full report !!

Bob you just mention the best tube combination, don't look any further.

+1

That would be killer. I agree with Angel. You are in for a treat. One of the greatest things about tube amps is that once you roll tubes or re-tube the thing, it's like getting a whole new piece.

Another good thing. My dealer carries both Shuguang and Gold Lion.

I know it's a long wait, but I'm already excited.

Congrats Bob! That's such a classic piece I always love looking at them. Does this version have the preamp tubes that light up and go through the stages or am I thinking about some special version.

Your VT100 put in some good long years for you. I bet it will be hard seeing it leave.

Grats on the new addition Bob!!

My past experience with the C500t, to me the tubes that came with the unit sounded better than the GL that I've put in.. Just my 2c..

As you're facing the amp, the input/driver tubes light up starting with the one on the left. They light up individually . When the last one lights up, the green glow comes on and the amp is ready to rock. If there is an output tube failure(hope this doesn't happen)the tubes in front of it will glow red indicating there is a problem. This is a great feature because when the tubes light up like that, the amp is automatically checking the bias.

If you go to the Mcintosh website and click on the v6, at the bottom of the page there is a picture of the amp that depicts this procedure. It also has an auto shutoff feature that kicks in when there is no input signal for 30 minutes. This amp has a lot of outstanding features built in and it is no lightweight in the fact that it weighs a hefty 67 pounds.

Yes, it will be hard to see the VT100 leave, but it served me well. The fact that it is costly to re-tube was instrumental in my decision. Not only is there the cost of the tubes, but when the tubes are installed the dc balance must also be checked and readjusted if necessary. That is something I do not know how to do.

With the 275, you just plug in the tubes, turn it on, wait a few seconds(or minutes)and you're ready to rock and roll.

Another thing. The 75wpc is very conservative. This amp can output near 90wpc.

Man, I wish it were coming tomorrow.
