What is the right procedure after changing music files under control of the mimimserver? Does is matter wheter there are small or many changes eg the directory structure.

A : after minor changes in the file structure of NAS , Eg adding and deleting some music files
I suppose the next steps are necessary:
A.1 rescan the mimimserver installed on the NAS
(on a QNAS open the pop up menu xxx :9790/ and touch the button rescan. After some time check the status , if the mimimserver is ready the status will be running.
A2 On the app (android) update library ; select mimiserver open Option Select between (please advice????)
Or 2.1 MimimServer Rescan or 2.2 Reload music Library or 2.3 Update Music Library

B: after major changes (eg file structure , changing of Tags)
B1 rescan the mimimserver installed on the NAS
B2 On the app (android) update library ; select mimiserver open Option Select between (please advice????)
Or 2.1 MimimServer Rescan or 2.2 Reload music Library or 2.3 Update Music Library
Alternative
C1 Select Delete music library on the app (the cache of the mimimserve on the NAS will be emptied)
C2 rescan the mimimserver installed on the NAS from the NAS control menu, after some hours the mimimserver will be up again
C3 On the app (android) update library ; select mimiserver open Option Select between (please advice????)
Or3.1 MimimServer Rescan or 3.2 Reload music Library or 3.3 Update Music Library

After any music file / directory is changed, simply use the Lumin app and tap "MinimServer Rescan". This should usually be sufficient.

When you believe the Lumin app is not seeing the latest status of the MinimServer (after Rescan), then you may try "Update Music Library" or even "Reload Music Library".

Hi Peter it is not that simple on a QNAP (it works fine on the USB disc)

Even if I open mimiserver from the QNAP I have to stop and start the mimiserver again to start the rescan.
After the rescan on the QNAP the cache on the QNAP is changed, I can't figure out if the command update music library is enough to load the "cache" from the QNAP to the Lumin. The app does not always communicate to the QNAP.
If i Use the command rescan the mimimserver stucks in status "stopping".

If I place CD's on the playlist to fast, the app stucks and when I restart the app I mostly lose the folderview, which is the only view I can work with because of 90000 tracks. I must rescan the music then to get the folder view back.

Reloading removes the cache from the QNAP server, it takes about 5-6 hours to load it again (again after stop start on the QNAP)

I don't think 90000 tracks are too many, since our testing MinimServer has 70000 tracks and works fine.

For direct control of MinimServer Rescan, see here:
http://minimserver.com/ug-control.html

Normally, the Lumin app should detect that MinimServer has finished rescan of audio files, then automatically updates its own database (can also be manually triggered in the app). If the Android app does not work well, try Linn Kazoo app instead.

If possible, consider using an iPad. With an iPad you gain the functionality of AirPlay from Spotify, YouTube, etc. to Lumin.

Hi Peter

Thanks for your answers.
After rescanning the mimimserver the Lumin app indeed gets updates automatically. Takes about 5 minutes, when one avoids the waiting by selecting playing from the USB storage or a radio station first, you don’t see the reloading. Only a small waiting circle is showed during the update.

So one does not need to click the button update music library. But the button might be handy anyway in case of doubts.

On the mimimserver support site I found out that the starting of an a rescan can be halted by an automatic update of the mimimserver. (the workaround is to stop the mimimserver with the off button and restarted with the on button on the QNAP app screen) Thanks for the link.

I am now aware that reload option offers the possibility to clean the mimimserver cache which can be handy if you changed all kind of tag information and some of the changed tag structure information might not change in the mimimserver cache by a rescan, (genres , size of art folders tracking numbers etc.). The mimimserver screen does not offer this opportunity so it is useful but should be used be careful because one has to wait hours for the buildup of a new cache.

Especially a lot of thanks for the Linn Kazoo tip.:congrats: The pros of the Linn Kazoo apps are:

  • I now do have a windows (Linn Kazoo) app on my Windows desktop , which has a much more stable connection and making a playlist with a PC for me is more handy than with a tablet or phone.
  • The Linn Kazoo android app shows more explicitly if the app is waiting on communication with the NAS and I got the feeling it has a somewhat better communication with the NAS.
  • Another advantage is that you can place about 80 cd’s at once on the playlist and save the playlist. Although additionally you must add the items or cd’s to the “DS” as a second step.
  • This offers the possibility to place a lot of cd’s on a playlist and play less picky randomly, but the playlist is stored locally on a windows or android machine, the android does not see the playlists stored with the windows. Also the Lumin app does not see the playlists stored with the Linn app either with a windows or android machine.
  • But it is easy after the making of a big playlists with windows, to open the Lumin or Linn Kazoo android app and (after waiting a while for connection) store the running playlist on both the android apps as well.
(Mind holding your phone horizontal because “vertical” you don’t see the save button on the Lumin app :disbelief:)

The handling of the playlist with the Lumin App (without “DS”?) is more efficient with less clicks. To make a small selective playlist the Lumin app is better designed. I am going to use both apps until my next Iphone. (QNAP has a supersync app for Iphone)
