After loads of research I just purchased NAD M12 and M22 pre-amp and amplifier as an upgrade to my NAD D7050. The most notable difference from my 7050 was the addition of tight full low end plus much more detail and dynamic range throughout (as one would expect for 6x the price). I currently have it hooked to KEF LS50's and I can see why so many are willing to upgrade electronics around them. They really did get better...much better in my opinion. I would be interested in others opinions and experience with these products.

Hi John, huge NAD fan here. Also love the LS50s. I've owned both the LS50s and the M12/M22 combo although not at the same time. My impression of the LS50s is they are second to none in their price range. They also cannot be outclassed by electronics regardless of price IMO. The M12/M22 combo ultimately didn't work for me. I actually like the older M2 a bit better although the M12/M22 is simply a gorgeous setup. Not that it's a bad combo. To the contrary I think they are both great pieces separate or together. But I was hoping to replace my Devialet d400 which was multiples the price of the NAD pair. Ended up preferring the Devialet. I could see someone going the other way with the right speakers though. And that's quite a compliment from me as I think the devialet is world class.

Thanks for that insight. Devialet is definitely on my short list when I think about any future upgrade. In fact I had considered spending the extra 3.5K for the 200 but held back. The M12/M22 is quite good and should keep me satisfied for 2 - 4 years. I'm seeing interesting developments in amplifiers with newer products like the Benchmark AHB2 being introduced so I think it's a reasonably safe bet that Devialet and some pretty good competitive products will be available in that time frame. So for now my upgrade plans will be restricted to bookshelf speakers (not sure my listening room can handle larger). I'll be looking for good suggestions of where to go next from the LS50's. I've already auditioned the KEF Reference 1's and really liked the resolution and detail they produced while going quite a bit lower than the LS50's. Thoughts on anything that would be a good match with the M12/M22?

We all love a tight full low end. :)

To Steal Corey Greenberg's Line from a Stereophool Review.............

........GO-NAD ;)

But seriously, I'm glad to hear that you're happy with your purchase.

I'm not a big SS fan, but I really enjoyed the sound of the Master Series components when I heard them at a show.

Are you fully satisfied with the bass performance of your LS50's? I've listened to them extensively and found the bass output to be satisfactory in a small room, but found it lacking in a larger room when listening to rock. I've always thought that a correctly integrated and high quality sub (REL?) would be worthwhile.

Horses for courses:peace:

Cheers,
Al

Compared to the D7050, the bass response has been really good with the the M12/M22 combo not to mention the ability to play incredibly loud without distortion. I have pretty eclectic music tastes and the KEF's have been good all around. Not really seeing the need for a sub and I would prefer not to go in that direction anyway. There's just so much that goes into engineering of speakers today that I think it makes more sense to move up the line rather than try to match a sub. I know the reference 1's would be one possibility albeit an expensive one.
