Thing were simple in 1984. The got complicated two years later.
In 1984 you could turn on my “stereo” or TV, they were not connected and easily listen, or watch, what you wanted. Having separate components only meant that you also had to run on the tuner if you wanted to listen to radio.
Two years later, TV had stereo, and I connected it to my “stereo.” VCRs were common and a bit complicated, especially when you got cable, new to Queens at that time. I also got a Laser Disc player. Oh yes, the audio world was changing: I got a cassette recorder, a MANUAL turntable and the biggie: A CD PLAYER!!!!!
No one knew how to use anything. Not even the CD player! So for friends, family and particular girlfriend, I created the Guide to Stereo on my word processor so they can use the stuff when I was not around!!! I don’t have the very original from 1986, but I just found this (above) page from(guessing) 1995. Basically the same, but I see I had satellite instead of cable.
Now that I have a computer with desktop publishing I still keep the guide and it has been helpful. I’ll try to put that up too!
