I decided to make this a separate post. I'm showing musicians I've been friends with and/or worked with in some capacity or other. All started as friends or acquaintances and technically still are, but it has been years since communication in most cases. You know we all get busy or move or what have you. Most of them live far away now. There are more than I can show, it's just that I have no way of letting you hear what they sound like.

Big Violin: I already posted about that in the youtube thread and did not want to repeat here. (No longer around)

Lisa Lynne: Short acquaintanceship set up by my boss at the radio station. Lisa asked me one day to come up and visit her someplace past Los Angeles, CA (too far) and she would have me play percussion and then show me how to play some harp and maybe go out and play for people. (Needless to say I did not take her up on that one. I'm a born, died in the wool chicken).

DA: This goes back at least 20 years. I can't believe I used to hang out with these guys. (forgive the crappy sound, best I could do)

Dichroic Mirror: Long time close friendship and I was booking, roadie, stage manager, council, etc. (No longer around. It was a two piece unless you count the drum machine. She is still out there in another band I have yet to see). Just lost touch about 4 years ago.

Scarlet Division:I never worked with them as there was a bit of distance, but I was good acquaintances with Leigh Haggerwood (Guitarist), acquaintance with Jamie Oliver through Leigh and with Leslie (singer). I know, I know, hard to believe I knew these folks, but you have to know I have a passion for cooking which seems to go with music for some reason and I wanted to get in touch with Jamie and am a fan of the band so Leigh and I met on-line exchanged private emails and went forward from there with a 2 year friendship. I also got to chat a bit with Jamie and Leslie. What needs to be understood is the fact that these folks know love! Some of the sweetest, most generous people on this rock in space! I was given music and things from them I am not allowed to share of course, but I can share what is public.(Sadly they are long defunct, but not for bad reasons. They still stay in touch with each other to this day). Prepare for awesomeness:

The Last Dance: We met through mutual friends. I never worked with them except they kept inviting me to private gatherings (don't worry they were normal...well, sort of, there was one at their house where we had BBQ and they played live and the mayor showed up), on the perm guest list to all shows. They later asked me to play percussion on an upcoming album! (Somebody let the cat out of the bag, but I'll never know who). You can guess what I did. Hint: I'm chicken. They got real big in Europe and Japan and such, but never forgot their friends. Jeff, the singer used to try to embarrass me at shows sometimes, by finding me in the audience and messing with me during a song. I don't know if they are together anymore though. Nice guys all.

Guardian: This goes back the furthest. This was my first official foray into the industry. (I was a metal head for a short time back in the early 80s) I became friends with the Bass player and ended up becoming roadie and stage manager and general friend of the other members. The singer here is not the original, he came after I left. I'll never forget the surprise going away concert they threw for me in Hollywood. They dragged me out there though I didn't want to go and they actually booked the gig at the Whiskey. I remember they had me introduce them for the first time, but little did I know that the guitarist (Tony) was going to pick me up over his shoulder and carry me to the stage in front of everyone and announce my departure from the group. That also turned out to be the night I met the Bassist for The Bangles! How and why she showed up is still a mystery. I can tell you though that she is tall.

Stone 588:Ladies and gents, boys and girls please allow me to introduce you to Queen Terri of the OC royal family of Goth. I was a member of the court thanks to her. I'm not kidding about the royal family thing either. It was real and recognized. We basically adopted each other as brother and sister. Friends for a long time. I still hear from her once in a blue moon. I recall our money was no good at clubs and some places would even treat us like royalty. (It was weird for me, but I just went along and did whatever I was supposed to). The band is long disbanded now. I also used to be booking agent, roadie, stage manager, sound engineer and just about every other hat you can think of except musician. Those were the days. I got a good portion of culture too hanging about. I went to plays and operas and art shows and all kinds of stuff like that as a member of the family.

This Ascension: I became fast friends with Dru (singer) one night when some friends (royal family again) invited me out to to hear this band. There was this guy bothering Dru and I stepped in and got her away from him. We were friends from that day forward with a number of things in common. Very sweet girl and when they were in town I was on list and would go see them and Dru and I would end up talking before the show at least 30 minutes or more. She would always have me come early so we could chat a while. Now prepare yourself for something incredible in the vocal department. She invited me to the San Bernadino where she used to live once to go to a drum circle and talk about the possibility of sitting in for a song at the next show. (Yup, chicken again).

A trip down memory lane for me. (In my case there are pot holes. Actually, my long term memory is fine and good. It's my short term memory that is all but shot. I can tell you what happened 20 years ago, but I can't tell you anything about 2 days ago and sometimes I have trouble remembering an hour ago or less. TIA damage).
Some Other artists/bands I worked with and known that I don't have any samples for:
The Return = I ran sound for them.
The Globe = started out running the lights (Gods I wish I could have done more of that!) and added bass guitar tech and sound engineer and stage manager to that. They were a party band, but original material, no covers. I even went to Vegas with them once. I remember that trip, it was fun and crazy.
LSU = Sang back-up on one song once live. How I was roped into that I'll never know, but I did it because two backup singers where required so I was able to hide somewhat. Didn't help afterwards though. Hundreds of pats on the back and not from my own hand either..too much.

There was another time I did a duet with a friend of mine at a coffee house gig. I sang and played Harmonica. I was supposed to go for two songs and barely made it through one before I dashed off the stage and ran into the arms of a girl (who was back in the kitchen) I knew for protection who worked there. People were going nuts over me, but all I did was play on a song and I'm self taught and not that talented. That was one scary night for me. The girl tired to get me to go back out there, but that was not going to happen. What ever convinced me to attempt such a thing I'll never know. I do know that I would never do it again. For most folks that would have been a positive experience, but I'm not wired for that, so for me it was nothing but fright. I don't know how I even got through the one song successfully.

There was one time where I tried to help out an artist, singer (one who will remain nameless, but was on TV a few times) who was going through a very rough time. I was introduced to her by a friend at the time and spent about a week (a few hours each day) with her just being company and someone to talk to. So that was a little different. I'm told it helped along with others.

There were a few other bands were I stepped in to help out once or twice as well during multi-billing gigs. I don't remember all of them though. It got to the point that many folks knew who I was just because I helped out. It was good times man!

Wow Eric. You're having quite an interesting musical life. That's pretty amazing. I appreciate you sharing the details. I'm enjoying checking out the music you've linked above. Thanks!

Yeah, I just wanted to share some good memories. I miss those days. It also partially explains my connection to music...well, it's sort of the chicken or egg thing, but still...
I figured folks may like maybe one of the artists perhaps, maybe more, you never know.
Dru from This Ascension is something, no? Incredible voice, I forget if she is professionally trained or not, but definitely gifted. I'll post some other stuff from her later in my Youtube thread. I have all her albums of course. We were also known for long hugs (bothered the hell out of other people wanting to talk to her, hee hee hee. She was always the instigator though).:) In fact, I was the only one allowed backstage at shows before and after. The group had a thing about people being backstage, especially before shows (and I totally get that), but for some reason she put me on the exception list (there were only 2 to 3 allowed). We had a few things in common and liked to talk computers and music constantly. I actually heard from her about 6 months ago after years of not hearing a peep. She's married now living in San Francisco. No longer in the industry though.

Eric, this is quite something! ...Your music experience with musician friends.

Me too I have few. Eventually I'll post some pictures, and perhaps a video or two.

* Once I jammed with John Mayall. ...Playing harmonica, on a street, of downtown (Gastown) Vancouver.
The best musicians I jammed with are for the most part unknown. The known ones are popular (in their own rights, and done well financially) but aren't the best musicians.

Also, someone stole all my photos (plus much much more like several musical instruments like guitars, amps, pedals, exotic flutes from around the world, mics, wires, albums (LPs and photographs), electronics, videos, my own music recordings, jewelry, precious travel souvenirs, family souvenirs, poetry and painting books, records of my youth like love letters, early work documents, sport devices, and more...all my life from when I was born to roughly the year 2000), so I cannot share physically and in pictures those, but only from emotional experience.
It's a long story and it hurts just to mention it. ...So better not ask questions.

But, the souvenirs remain; in my soul, in my head, and in my heart.

I'll share some, one day at a time, when I feel strong enough emotionally. It's very very very hard, very tough Eric. ...Another day...

No big deal. There is no requirement to share anything. My philosophy: if it hurts too much, don't share it publicly or any other way, simple as that.

There is much more to the story that I can't share because it's private. I've been around artists and celebs enough times to know not to pry or ask anything. Let them move in their own space and time, that's rather important as they are just as sensitive as I am. This is the way they warm up to you and form an acquaintanceship resulting in allowing you to share in their gifts.
Example: I got a hello and a hug from the bass player for The Bangles just because I didn't approach her or anything. (Ok, I kind of purposely got in the way of a drunk guy trying to get all over her without anyone realizing what I was doing). Still, she is not known as an outgoing person and certainly not a hugger. She came to the club to check out the band I was working for..well farewell gig for me anyway (how she knew and why is beyond me).

I jammed a long time ago with few members of that band; La Bottine Souriante
{Guitars, harmonicas, mandolins, violins, flutes, accordion, spoons, bombarde (mouth harp), ...}

And Yves Lambert and I, way back then, way before he created that band, when we were around 16, we were playing harmonicas together, outside the bars of our town.

The only traditional Quebec music I played is on harmonicas and flutes.

On the guitars (creative style, improv) I'm more New Age, intertwined with Folk/Blues.
I am more an acoustic guitar player, even if Electric and Classical are also part of me life.
And I am more comfortable playing the alto and soprano steel flutes and harmonicas when jamming with other musicians (pros and non-pros).

It's a hobby, and I'm not playing and jamming anymore; very rarely.

Yves also quit La Bottine Souriante, and Serge is only playing for fun, at friends' places and at the park (summer time in Montreal), and in Mexico (winter time).

* Too bad that all my pictures were stolen... ...And all my negatives too.

Other stories of musicians from AS members? ...The only way to keep going. :) ...I am 100% certain that we have few member musicians here, and with cool musical stories. ...Or members who worked/work in that entourage; mixing/recording engineers, acousticians for hall theaters, sound mixers and arrangers, songwriters, singers, ...

Trampoline: Platform, board, forum, ...to learn how to jump-start, to share highs, to bounce up and down the ladder of professional recordings, to start your own music recording studio, to improve your guitar playing style, to find out about new DSP progams, digital effect pedals, to live life in an audio/musical world of higher caliber by going directly to the source; the musician and his creative talent and all the tools (instruments and electronics) related to it. ...With demos, info, videos, ... Sound
