I took a day trip up to Chicago to hear Murray Perahia play Bach, Schubert and Beethoven in Orchestra Hall yesterday. This is my favorite concert hall in the US -- the acoustics and the ambiance are sublime. I know we like to talk about how audio equipment sounds, but that's virtual. It's always good to hear real. If your paradigm isn't a regular dose of real performances, how can you judge the quality of the equipment?
Also, it was a sunny and crisp day, so very enjoyable to stroll around Millennium Park prior to the concert. And the food is always great in Chicago.
