For those of you running Minimserver for your Lumin, the newest version now allows one to purchase a full license which provides additional features, including web-based configuration.

I am curious if anyone has gone this route and found the new features to be worthwhile.

I am still running the starter (free) license and it seems to be just fine.

I'm also going to look into setting up Minimserver for my Lumin.

Here's the backstory: I've primarily been using my Roon Core located in the remote server room and connected via optical from ER, with a Mac OS Extended-formatted T-bolt drive. OTOH, I know for a fact that the native Lumin app sounds better than Roon. However, with the "legacy" external HD for Roon not set up in a format that the Lumin app is able to see, I was only able to use the native Lumin app to stream via my Qobuz account. So today, I just put some of my XLD-ripped disc files (most of which are FLAC, but some of which are DSF) onto a small USB flash (thumb) drive that was formatted FAT32 and simply plugged it into the USB-A port on the back of the P1, and WOW! Even better audio quality! I'm really impressed. :celebrate008_2:

With that, I've ordered a FAT32 low-power USB hard drive, and I'm going to move all my ripped disc files from the Roon Core's external content drive to the new FAT32 drive and plug it into the USB port on the back of the P1. That'll give me all my ripped content on a drive directly connected to the P1. I'll use the Lumin app for content playback when I'm in "CLM" (critical listening mode). Once the new L2 external drive ships, I'll get that.

Long-story short, if you've got a Lumin streamer or streamer/DAC and have just been using it with Roon, or only to stream via Qobuz or similar streaming services using the Lumin app, put some of your music files that have been ripped from disc onto an appropriately formatted* and compatible drive and connect directly it to your Lumin. You may find yourself in, as I was, for a most pleasant surprise with respect to a notable improvement of what already was superb audio quality. I'm sure Peter and more experienced Lumin customers already knew this. ;) All I can say is, I wish I had tried it sooner! 👌

With that, I'm now also going to try Minimserver.

Well done, Lumin!

Depends on how many tags you have configured in your tracks.
MinimServer Full license allow you to configure any tag you like, as long as you decide to constantly manage them for all albums, for example:
  • Conductor
  • Orchestra
  • Soloists
  • Work
  • Subgenre
  • Disk subtitle (for multidisk box)
  • Recording date
  • Release date
  • Period (musical/historical of the Composer)
  • Last added tracks/albums (automatically managed by MinimServer)
  • Last played tracks/albums (automatically managed by MinimServer)
  • File type (dsf, flac, alac, aiff, …) (automatically managed by MinimServer)
  • File quality (bit depth, sample rate) (automatically managed by MinimServer)

these are in addition to the tags natively displayed by Lumïn app:
  1. Artist/Album Artist
  2. Genre
  3. Composer

… I find that especially for classical music this is very helpful
