Do we have any McIntosh 75 owners? This is one sweet looking amp:

Re: McIntosh 75

I hope to get a pair by the end of the year. Love the looks and miss my MC275.

Re: McIntosh 75

Joe.......The new reissued MC75 is getting rave reviews from all owners. A pair of these outperforms the MC275, especially in the low frequency range where the MC275's grip on the deepest bass was somewhat loose. The power supply section of the MC75 mono amplifier is as large as the power supply for the two channel MC275 which allows the amplifier to deliver greater current reserves when called upon. This shows up as tighter, more well defined bass. There are some other great features added to the MC75, one being McIntosh Sentry Monitor. The amplifier will immediately shut itself off in the event of any internal voltage anomalies or failed power tubes. This keeps the internal parts from self destructing should any power tubes develop catastrophic failure. The amplifier now allows adjustable input sensitivity and also provides remote power turn on through the standard McIntosh power control input. Ideally, a pair of MC75 mono amps and the new reissued C22 tube preamp would be a system worth owning. Toss in the Tannoy's of your choice and get ready to be impressed.

Re: McIntosh 75

Awesome Dan. Thank you. I did not realize how significant the upgrades were to the improved performance. I love the idea of the Sentry Monitor because I do have a little tube nervosa with my other tube gear. Sometimes you don't realize what you had until it's gone.

Re: McIntosh 75

Joe.......The McIntosh Sentry Monitor circuit is worth its weight in gold. I had a KT88 power tube fail on my right channel MC2301. Seeing the blue and white flash damn near gave me a heart attack but the Sentry Monitor circuit shut the amp off immediately. I replaced the power tube with a fresh one, reenergized the amp and all has been well since then. That was over 800 hours ago on the amplifier. Sentry Monitor is new to the McIntosh tube amplifier catalog beginning with the MC2301 amps. I am very pleased to see McIntosh finally include this important safety feature on all new MC275 and MC75 tube amplifiers.

I keep looking at them and saying "now THAT'S what an amp should look like!"

Re: McIntosh 75

Curious to know how a pair of the MC75s would compare to a pair of MC275s running in dual mono mode?

Great to see this amp updated.

Steve.......I think the best comparison of the new MC75's versus dual mono MC275's would have to be made using the new MC275 MkVI versions. The reason being is the newest MC275 amp has a beefier power supply and redesigned signal paths when compared to the MC275 MkV amp. I have read comments that both the new MC75 and MC275 MkVI amplifiers sound very close to that of the MC2301. I had a pair of MC275 MkV amps operating in mono and found the additional dynamic headroom was only minimal but the bass frequency range did develop more accurate timbre. Still, I think to get an accurate picture of what you suggest it would be best to only compare the newest models of both amps. The results would be interesting.

So has anyone purchased a pair of MC75's? I really would like to hear these amps.

I have been listening to the the MC75's for a a couple of months. They sound superb! We have them hooked up to the new C22 which I am also a big fan of. I haven't had the time to try them with different preamps yet. Hopefully I will have some time soon to try them with some other equipment.

Joe.......I've kind of been waiting on your review. :)

Hahahahahaha, I knew it!

I may break down soon Dan. I REALLY miss my McIntosh gear. I'd consider the C1100T as well, if the performance is there. Based on specs, the C1100T is very impressive.

Thank you Bob. I may need to pay a visit :D
