McIntosh Amp for B&W 683

Hi All,

I am in the state of confusion deciding which Mcintosh amp to buy for my B&W 683. I need 2 channel amp for stereo. I don't have plans to upgrade my speakers any time soon, but if I do decide in the future, I will go for the B&W CM9 or CM10, since my budget cannot get me the 800 series. I need one that will last for a long time. Thanks
 
Any idea of budget?

If you can swing it, the McIntosh 452 represent the new Mc sound which I just love.

I can only speak for the MC601 since I have a pair. If you don't mind using a pair of mono blocks, then that what I would suggest. It has all the latest McIntosh technology like the MC452. 601s will drive just about any speaker made in the world and yet it will give the true McIntosh sound quality. Some Claims it as tube sound like amp and I somewhat agree.
 
Afolabi, if you want a McIntosh amp you may want to consider a used MC252, an integrated MA6300 or a tube MC275. While your speakers are a great bang for the buck I don't know if it makes much sense spending about $16k on MC601's unless you are planning on upgrading your speakers to something in the same price range. I did have 803d's with MC352's and noticed an improvement when I switched to the MC601 mono's.

Paul...is $16K really the MSRP for the 601s? Weren't they $12K in 2012 before the price increase last summer? Did they really go up by $4K?

I think they are $14k/pair.

I stand corrected. I thought I heard they were going up another $1k each. My point was really that I like to match the value of the components in my system and not have one item be an outlier, too inexpensive or expensive relative to the other components in the system. That is unless I was planning on upgrading the system over time. I wouldn't spend $1500 for speaker cables for $1500 speakers.
 
I think one of the McIntosh integrated amps would be a very good choice.

MA7000--250wpc, MA7900--200 wpc, MA8000--300 wpc and NOT out of this world cost that would be in line with the cost of the B&W 683's you have.

Paul...I agree with you. I think that's a good rule of thumb.
