I just picked up a used MC7100 "late" unit. I don't think McIntosh ever distinguished early releases versus late releases so I will simply call it the v2.
The v2 has a better power cord, a power switch, balanced inputs, and speaker terminals that can accommodate banana connectors. All are very important to me. They also eliminated the pan-lock system giving it a cleaner look.
The one I picked up went through a McIntosh authorized restoration center about two years ago. I bought it from a big time McIntosh collector who's wife told him he had to thin the heard a bit to purchase some more new stuff
. This unit has been upgraded with the new style escutcheons also so it has a more modern look.
So far it works perfectly and sounds wonderful. Definitely my favorite amplifier that I have owned!!! (probably amazing to hear this from a Binghamton boy
