Matching Power Cords

I am curious what folks think about matching power cords to the same brand as speaker cables and interconnects.

it seems one school of thought believes there is real synergy in sticking to the same line for all cabling.

And perhaps another larger school believes that finding the best power cord is a completely independent factor, regardless of the decision on ICs and SCs.

I recently placed an order to upgrade all of my Kubala Sosna ICs and SCs. I find their house sound to be just right for me. But until recently I hadn’t considered them for power cords.

i am actually demoing KS Elation PCs right now as I type this. Sound is awfully nice. I just always expected to go in a different direction with power cords. Call me nuts, but I think the best power cords I have ever heard were these funky Shun Mook Western Electric based power cords. Sounded so musical and tuneful in my last system.

any strong advocates of matching PCs to other cables in system?

thanks!

RCA interconnects
XLR interconnects
Digital interconnects
Speaker cables
AC power cords

Each has it's own requirements, what's good for one won't necessarily be important in another.

I used to believe that one should create their loom of power cords and interconnects from one manufacturer. Although I still lean in that direction I now consider cost in my decision process. My interconnects and speaker cable are still Transparent but I have inserted some Shunyata power cords into my set-up. After performing some A/B tests I decided to go with some of their Alpha line where it made sense. I could go back to all Transparent but am not willing at this time to pop for their Opus power cords.

Power cords are one of the items I found there is no benefit to matching...in my experience it's been detrimental.

I agree on interconnects and speaker cables it is good to have sound synergy. But IMHO power cords are ‘nutha story.

I also find that matching power cords to interconnect and speaker cable brand it not necessarily the best way to go. Sometimes what works the best should be determined by what you experience with your own ears and honestly some companies simply have better performing power cords.

I think it depends on the cable manufacturer.

With Kubala, there definitely IS a net gain by going all in with KS, even if you use different lines. Because the KS power cords are priced rather low in relation to their signal cables, most people end up ordering the Elation power cords, even though they get something else for the signal.

I keep trying different cable lines, but there's a certain "rightness", where everything seems to land in place, when I put the KS stuff back, that's hard to ignore...

cheers,

I am using Kubala cables for my signal chain. For power cords, I have found it depends on the component in my system. I liked Shunyata on my phono pre, pre amp, and feeding my power conditioner. I liked Kubala on my amps and DAC.

Jim, I share the same mind set as you and currently going up the daisy line with my current set up, but the cost to maintain a loom is astronomical especially when your looking at 8 or 9 cords, and determined this will be a progression path versus all at once, or at least I hope.
