Anyone heard this amp?

Mr. Lewinson not anymore involved and the company has been taken over by Harman (which in turn was taken over by Samsung last year), but it's getting rave reviews with reviewers referring to the brand's times on greatness a couple decades ago.

Well, anyone agreeing with that...

I heard the 585, my friend was driving his KEF Ref 5's with one. Nothing to compare it to that evening. It did sound good, it's the Lewinson sound, transparent, decently quick and detailed. Considering it's like an entire Lewinson system in one box not a bad deal. One consideration, it is an integrated and the amp doesn't double down, it's more along the line of a less powerful 532h, so it should drive most speakers within reason but still not the force of a Lewinson separate amp.

He ended up with the new 526 pre & 534 power, quite a bit more coin but that amp had the Ref 5's singing, and with amazing control, just effortless.

After reading my first post I'm not sure I addressed your question properly. I don't think the 585 sounds like the amps of the "old days", some might argue the overall character of the newer stuff is even better sound. I find the newer amps smoother, not warm, just smooth, more engaging.

I do agree, if the writers are trying to say Levinson is getting their act together like the old days. Although the 532h is a different topology from classic Levinson, it is an excellent amp. Now it took them a while but they have the 585, new preamps and power amps. So if they back it up with good quality control and customer service, they may get some of the market back. They even jumped on the turntable bandwagon.

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences, and in particular the description of the sound. To me that sounds like the amp does many things right, the rest is down to preferences. The technical specs at least are nice, a question might be how much current it puts to the speakers and the resulting dynamics and ability to drive heavy loads.

I also like your comparison of the Lewinson to emerging sound signatures of manufacturers who have entered the market after the former's hey days. There might be a point there that the normal has shifted, looking at e.g. Ayre, DartZeel, Solution and others.

Would like to see ML doing good again. The first time I heard a high end system is was ML 33H amps with ML pre amp and CD transport/dac with Watt/Puppy 7.
