So how good are these speakers? I love monitors. Are they now obsolete? What monitors better them in the $10,000 range? What are the pluses and minuses? I hear they need TONS of power. Thanks.

I guess it might be a tough task to better those, but if I am not mistaken they are closer to 20K, if not purchased pre-owned. And you are right, they need grown up amplification or they will sound a bit bland.

What comes to mind are the Manger Audio C1 or the Gauder Akustik Berlina C3.

I saw a used pair for $10,000, hence my curiosity as to the comparison of the Mini II's with more current speakers in this price range.

Thanks for pointing out these other two speakers. I'm not familiar with either brand.

I think there is an interview with Daniela Manger in the April or May TAS. Their specialty is a tweeter innovation. The speaker should have superb time domain coherence.

The Berlina RC3 is a standmount version of one of the highest rated speakers of German make, the Berlina RC9. They use ceramic membranes all the way, like some of the Martens or Lumen White.

I have a customer that had both the Magico's and a pair of Joseph Pulsars, and he preferred the Pulsars.

Another absolutely fantastic pair of monitors you should check out if you get the chance is the Alta FRM-2 Celesta's. They are pretty incredible....

Why not Raidho's? Lord know you can find a used pair for a good price. C1.1's are outstanding.

Around that budget you can buy a pair of Penaudio Cenya Signatures with matching Coldray stands which are very nice & fly under the radar.

Mike, how do the Raidho's compare with the Sopra 1's?

It all depends on the music being played and source, but the Raidho's disappear, they're very holographic. But they won't play QUITE as loud as the Sopra's.

Why not S1 mk2's?

I have not listened to Magico's. I'll be at AXPONA in a few weeks and will give them a demo. Will you be up there? If so would love to meet up.

Yes, I'll definitely be there. Call me at 941-932-0282 when you're there.

Thanks for the responses. Speakers are like legal issues. Ask a hundred lawyers and you'll get 100 different opinions. It shows the TOTAL subjectivity of our hobby. Optimal sound is totally in the ear of the beholder. Today in one of my vintage systems I drove a pair of recapped IMF Super Compact II's with an Advent 300 receiver and I'm in audio nirvana. Go figure!!
